I have a 2008 1200GSA. Checking it over today I noticed a small oil leakage onto the Garage floor. It appears to have dripped from the bottom of the rear spring and may have come from the joint where pipe joint is near the bottom of the spring. And I guess it might be something to do with the ESA.

It has been out in the cold for a couple of days as I only made space in the garage friday evening. perhaps the small pipe got very cold and has failed. I have BMW used bike warranty but may get it done locally, as dealer is a bit of a trek, if its no big deal.

Can anybody tell me what it is or may be please?

Cheers,

Merrick:)

As regards what's wrong it all comes down to finding exactly where the leak is. Is it actually coming from the pipe (or the block where it's located into the bottom of the damper) or is it running down the shock absorber rod from a failed seal in the shock above?

In either case, unless you intend to fix it yourself, a trip to the dealer is called for as the amount of oil in the system is quite small without significant spare capacity.

If it's a damaged pipe or O ring it may be repairable, if it's the seal on the damper rod then I woudn't be surprised if the elect to give you a new shocker. Once the cause of the leak is identified make sure it's clear what the dealer is going to do and what if any costs are involved before you let the work proceed

Mine did the exact same thing last week (09 GSA). Started of with a drip then a few days later got heavier. Took it in and they have replaced the shock.:thumb
