Hi guys

Just bought my first airhead(1978 R100RS) and quite a shock after my KTM 690 Enduro!!

Anyway I have a leak from the oil pressure switch, I've tried to tweak it up but no joy. The oil only leaks when the bike is mainly on tickover. Is this repairable or a new switch? I can't even exactly see where the leak is from, but it appears to come from the inner plastic??

Cheers for any help.

I've had the same after a very hot day and the engine got so hot it melted some of the plastic parts. No lasting damage but I replaced this switch because it leaked through the plastic core.

Don't waste time trying to fix this oil leak - buy a new one from Motobins or Motoworks.

They do give up after a while - I have replaced one ort two on my airheads over the years.

Safe riding,
Mike

Cheers for that guys I'll order two!

In airhead terms "After a while" means 30 years or so. I'd save your money and just buy the one.

I bet your bike rides terrible. Looks like standard shocks on the rear and will probably have the stronger springs in the front that are meant to support the RS fairing. What does it ride like?

Rides like a bag of nails, but just bought some Ohlins shocks for the rear end, then possibly going down the route of DRZ forks as the current forks are solid!

Is that from kevills?
Nope, I'm not that well off for a bike from kevills! I was near his place today though, but at Vonzeti's, a great place who specialise in airhead seats and subframes

That's a lot of work.

I bet it's got the wrong grade oil in there. Try a good quality 5w

Electrical system plastic parts are falling to powder on my 1976 Suzuki so don't expect too much from that oil switch.
