So it seems I have an oil leak, weirdly it looks like it's coming from somewhere near the top of the engine!? Any ideas? Seems like an odd place for a leak...

Oil temp sensor on the engine top surface RHS has an alloy sealing washer that corrodes. Seen it twice on 1200's, oil puddles beneath the alternator then trickles down the LHS when on the side stand.

An easy fix, remove and clean up faces then fit new sealing washer. Simple and cheap.

Fantastic - thanks for that Pukmeister, I owe you a beer! :beerjug:

+1 . I had the same thing although it was more of a weep than a leak. Those ali washers can corrode badly especially if you ride in winter on salty roads. Not good if its a brake banjo washer!

To be fair, it is indeed more of a weep than a leak :thumb2

There is an odd mix of aluminium or copper crush washers around the bike. Mostly aluminium on the engine, but there are a few copper ones too. Doesn't seem tobe much rhyme or reason governing which is used.
All copper on the brake lines though, so no worries about the joints spontaneously bursting...
