Hi everyone,

We've been using the GS for the last 15 days doing an average of 250 miles (on Norwegian roads = quite slow) a day and the bike is heavily loaded, I've been checking the oil regularly and it's been ok up to today when I checked in the morning and the level has dropped (can see just a tiny bit the glass). The problem is, right now we're in Norway close to the Northcape and I don't know if I can fill up with any 20W50 that I find in the petrol stations.

The bike is a 2000 1150GS 42K miles (serviced 4000 miles ago) and had never dropped oil when in the UK, but I take it can be consuming some oil now 'cos its heavy (2-up, panniers and top box).

Apologise if it's been discused in the past, but I can't do a search right now as the Internet here is quite (very) slow and our time is very short.

thanks in advance for all the help :bow :bow

use any 20w50, 15w50, 10w40 you come across.

don't put too much in at a time. no more than about 250ml to avoid overfilling.

Thanks very much Cookie :thumb

Is there anything else that might need special looking at when riding long distances fully loaded?

Many thanks :clap

i've been looking for the bmw grade chart for you, but can't seem to find it. only got this:

Really appreciate it Cookie, thanks very much. :beerjug:

I think the best bet will be 20W50 then 'cos we're heading to Turkey/Greece in Aug. And glad to know that mixing will be fine as I don't know which oil was used in the last service (Steptoe?).

Thanks a lot Neil :thumb

I had to use 10W-40 ´cos I couldn´t find any 20W-50 in Norway, the bike seems to be fine now and it´s almost time to get another service done

Tyre wear will obviously be up on normal and check the brake pads more often....particularly if you're doing slow hill descents fully loaded ;)

Keep us updated on the trip :thumb
