I do intend to pop into the dealer over the weekend but I wondered if any one had had the "check oil level" display appear whilst riding? An immediate physical check (as per the book) shows the level a little below the top of the mark and a scroll through the display shows "Oil level OK"

If you have subsequently checked the oil level, using the method(s) as described very simply in the owner's manual (not some other method as dreamed up by yourself or other owners) and found it to be hunky-dory, I wouldn't worry about it much more.

Don't waste your time going to the dealer. If the physical level as per sight glass is OK, then you can sleep well at night and ride with a smile on your face.

The warning started appearing every time I stopped at traffic lights a few weeks ago. I know it's just a light and whilst the level in the glass might be OK, it's still bloody annoying to have it popping on screen and making you paranoid.

I rode around with it like that for nearly 4 weeks before I could get into the dealer, no harm done - it's just a light.

20 mins in dealer to diagnose a faulty oil levelling switch, 5 days to get the part over from Germany, 45 minutes to fit. :)

Is the bike on level ground when the light comes on? I noticed the light would come on if I stopped on a slight slope on my last bike, when the oil was about halfway up the sight glass.

If you stop on a slope on your new bike.... It apparently kangaroos all over the shop on restart. Demand a software update.

Many thanks comes with answers to three questions:
Oil is that put in at the first service so I must assume Castrol.
Physical check carried out as per book.
Can't say what the attitude of the bike was at the time the message showed but the riding had previously been spirited!
Thanks again.

I had a similar problem on my RT. The dealer told me it was 'probably the switch' and to 'just ignore it'.

This is a convenience thing that has gone fu-bar, not something essential. Just ignore it until its time for a service. What a waste of time going to dealer now for a looksy then again when its booked in. All that too-ing and fro-ing makes up for a lot of lost personal time ! Go old school - use the sight glass for now.
