Oil misted front shock

Hi all. Per photo, my front shock gets all misty with oil. Bike is only 6k miles and 2 years old. I am wondering if this is normal as it has never happened to previous bikes. Granted all my previous bikes only had a rear shock but this never happend to those. This is my first telelever suspension bike).

In summary is this normal or something I should seek to deal with under warranty before it runs out early next year?

Are you sure it's from the shock? Seems to be more on the outside of the spring and damper rather than the cylinder inside it? Maybe it's the photo and how I'm reading it.

More at the top of the spring and at the rear of the steering damper. Have you checked the damper over? No harm booking it in if you can't see an obvious cause. I've never had oil mist on my telelever spring, nor steering damper. Plenty of muck and bugs, but not oil. So either a fluke that you followed something spitting out oil, but then I'd expect to see it on other parts of your bike too, or a fault.

My front shock let go and there was red fluid all over the place. I would maybe keep an eye on it or have it checked.

I've had one let go on a K1600 at 4k, infant mortality - it was much as @Wells describes, damper oil everywhere, along with a strange front end feel as the tyre skips.

This looks far more like detritus from the road surface - there is plenty around currently, after such a prolonged dry spell, floating up from the road whenever we get a shower.

Best give the whole area a detail clean so you can monitor accurately the damper rod/seal situation for a while.

If the seal was leaking you'd see oil running down the damper rod. It doesn't seem to be doing that. But mention it to the dealer if it's an ongoing concern.

Dry it,

leave for 24hrs and re photo it

Then you will know

I don't think that's oil - it looks like traffic film to me

as noted above - wash it and re-check.
