Oil on fork slider?

Strange, but I had some oil on my right fork slider today around the seal. I thought these things had no oil in them? Where did it come from?

I cleaned it off - definately oil and a reasonable amount. It has not reappeared. If it was a 'normal' bike then I would say the seal had blown, but the damping is done at the shock

We do have some wicked speed humps at work, very abrupt, I presume there is oil in there to lubricate the slider. Could it have blown past the seal?

Bike is less than a month old - any ideas?

are you sure its oil, not grease? The forks do leak a bit of grease around the seal when weather is hot. My left fork leg was checked by dealer and this is what he told me.

Mine did that briefly after the dealer did the fork recall mod. I assumed it was some trapped oil in the seal assembly after they pulled the fork tube out. Wiped it for a couple of days, then it stopped.

Same on mine. Wiped it off and it did not reappear.

Just out of interest, it there is no oil in the fork leg, what is the purpose of the oil seal ?

There is fork oil in the fork legs.

Yep, oil in the tubes. My dealer said you'd know if the oil as leaking out. It would cover the fork leg!!!

One of the symptoms of the fork stanchion separation problem is that oil can escape from the stanchion via the gap that opens up, so yes there is oil in there (not for damping, just for lubrication) and it can get out, either due to the fork separation problem or via worn or faulty seals.
