Oil on rear wheel R1150R

I went for a 20 mile spin yesterday and there appeared to be no leakage. Strange
I will keep an eye on it.

My 1150GS wept a bit of oil around the gaiter for a while 20-odd thousand miles back. I checked final drive and gearbox levels, both were staying fine, so I ignored the oil weep and it went away. Got the impression it wasn't that unusual. So maybe not so strange?

Did 200 miles around Norfolk today and only a VERY minor misting. Maybe this will cure itself.:nenau

Bugger!

Suspect this is happening to my bike also. Changed gearbox oil recently and now have smear of oil dripping down the FD torque arm. Checked gearbox oil level yesterday and had to top it up. Looks like a visit to the local guru is on the cards.

Before doing that, if it wasn't leaking before you changed the oil, it may be leaking as a result of your actions, did you change the sealing washers on both drain and filler plugs, and check they are correctly torqued up. - is what I'd do first.

Probably fair to say that with all the bits that your average diy-er does not have in their toolbox it is not one to tackle at home.

Clips fitted on my 1150 - much better than cable ties :thumb2

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but it concerns these metal tension straps.

I get the small one, that is a D=90mm BMW part no 33171458197. Motorworks part no TRA58197. Fits nice and tight.

But I don't get the other larger one. I'm assuming it's the D=132mm BMW part no 33172335120. Motorworks part no TRA35120. It's as slack as anything when fitted and that's with the clamp at it's smallest diameter ( fully screwed in ). I compared it to another clamp from different source thinking it might be a batch problem, but exactly the same. I recon the clamp should be 20mm shorter in circumference to get a tight fit.

Before anyone asks. R1100GS final drive to a R1150GS twin spark swinging arm, not that that should make any difference.

Short of modifying the clamp (cut and Spot weld) anyone any suggestions.

The larger tie os from an airhead GS . As you've found out, the 1100 doesn't fit the 1150. :D

All the Airhead GS use the same clamp D= 132mm apart from the R80G/S which uses a 33171230297, but doesn't show the diameter. Big assumption that this is the clamp you talk of.

So I'm going to shortened the clamp I have by 20mm.

Thanks anyway:thumb2

Surely he knows because he's done it ?:nenau

I know but he's setting a challenge. Where would the fun be if he explained everything in detail.:thumb2

I like it when I have to think about the problem, no matter how small. :D

I've more important things to commit to memory than the exact length of a hose clip or from what model it came from in picture i first posted on a thread around 6-7 years ago.
