Took my bike out yesterday for the first time (50 miles) since September last year, I had given the bike a good clean over the winter so it was spotless when I left but when I got back home I noticed what look like very fine metal shaving on the rear wheel rim possibly copper or brass ?

Is it on both sides of the rim?

If only on the side where the brake is, it might be brake dust which was loosened by your washing and moved/dried somewhere on the disk or the brake pads from where it was thrown outwards during your trip now.

Not sure where copper or brass would come from which collects on the rear rim, however, I think there are copper colored aftermarket brake pads. Do you use those?

Are you sure these are from your bike and not road debris? Any evidence of similar pieces elsewhere on the back of the bike, especially around the rear brake hose where it runs along the swinging arm, this is where a lot of road crap seems to end up on my bike.

I love technical posts like this......... It's is going to be like pulling teeth due to the total lack of any detail and general vagueness.

Wash the bike again. Don't use any preservative grease or spray of any type and come back in a week (or so) when there are no more shavings.
