Oil question

This is a question more out of curiosity than out of any form of concern about my bike. So I’m wondering if any of you more mechanically minded peeps than me can answer me this.

Why on my 1800 mile engined ADV does the oil go black and dirty very quickly when on my 13000 mile previous 1150 it stayed nice and clean for much longer? I wondered if it was because of the low mileage of the engine and things still bedding in.
Any thoughts (and no doubt much banter and helpful suggestions! )

On the low mileage engine the rings may not be fully bedded in so allows combustion products including carbon past them and into the oil. Old engine bedded in so doesn't have the problem.

BTW I'd guess that low miles engine uses oil, older one doesn't?

That was my guess too. The older engine was still using oil actually but not as much.
