Oil thermostat leak?????

Ive noticed oil leaking from what I think is the oil thermostat.

I have only noticed this since the bike was over filled with oil at a recent service. Ive just drained 0.5 ltr out and its still at the top of the sight glass.

Will I need to replace the thermostat?

Any thoughts advice would be greatly received

Not over familiar with the arrangement on the 1150 but its unlikely that overfilling would cause that, theres probably a fibre washer in that brass thing, have you tried nipping it up ?

A couple of weeks ago I lost what looked like loads of oil from there, all over back tyre (thats how I noticed it).
Theres an aluminium crush washer there, it had corroded and caused a leak. Cost pennies to fix, but what a bastard it is to get the thing off.

It was a swine to get the spanner on it to try to nip it up.

Do you have the part number for the washer?
I cant seem to find it on the microfiche.

Item 14 I believe.

Could the oil be travelling down from the oil cooler pipes and dripping down to the spot in your photo. If not then just unscrew it and take the old washer to a engineering shop and get something as close to.

Point to note, can't you take the bike back to whoever serviced it and get them to sort oil leak and your fuel leak while there at it.

Got it. Item 11 is the thermostat and 12 is the gasket ring.
I'll give it a try.
Fuel leak is already fixed.

Mine did exactly the same about two months ago, it had just worked loose though. Managed to nip it up by removing the tank to gain a little more room. It's been fine ever since.

Oil Temperature Sensor Seal Replacement

Part no: 07119963200
Cost: 21p

1. Remove tank for ease of access

2. Trace temperature sensor lead back to connection and disconnect. Fig 1

3. Due to the tight space I found it impossible to get a open ended spanner on the sensor, feed the connection through a 19mm ring spanner, Fig 2.

4. Now slide it all the way down to the sensor. Fig 3. You will now have plenty of space to undo the sensor and remove the seal.

5. Replace seal and sensor. Nip up tightly.

6. Replace tank, job done

When I replaced my sensor, the connector would not fit through the ring spanner, I ended up removing the oilcooler feed to make room for the open ended spanner.

No need to remove the oil cooler feed, the connector will fit through a 19mm ring spanner with a small amount of "persuasion"

Can't see any MOD crows feet on that spanner mate. In fact I didn't know you even owned any spanners
