Hi Guys,

Just come from a long ride this morning, stopped at traffic lights and noticed that the Oil warning was on the display. Pulled over to take a look, oil was half way on sight glass, kept going had to stop at more lights and the warning appeared again.

Now each this has happened the bike had been pointing down hill. My question I put to you all, is the oil sensor a presure sensor or a level indicator and should it be affected if the bike is on a hill or not

Cheers:beerjug:

Pretty sure its a pressure sensor, and the OBC one is a level sensor.

Unless the hill is extreme, then no, it shouldn't effect the pressure sensor as long as the level is correct.:(

Same problem with mine, was diagnosed as a faulty pressure censor, will be replaced under warranty.

Hi Shep

The message I got was from the OBC so it could be because of the front tilt on the bike shifted the oil out of reach of the OBC Oil level indicator

Thanks its put my mind at rest

Get it checked out, its likely to be a faulty sensor or similar, but better safe than sorry:thumb

Definately get it checked out... I had a similar problem with a VW Scirroco, I found that if I kept the revs down the pressure warning light went out. At the time I could stop as I had a friend (I laugh now) in the had to make the airport for a very very important flight/meeting.

At the time I assumed that because the light was going out there would be enough pressure to prevent damage.

Anyway, by the time I got there (less than 80 miles) the crack was completely feck and I ended up having to rebuild the bottom end... and my mate with the important meeting??? well he did squat all to help!

If it was just the OBC, don't worry about it. It is only reliable on levelish ground. I suspect the later ones are better but the early ones on the 12RT would come on very early (often not even below the dot on level ground). Having said that mine has always been very good.

Bear in mind that the OBC is only a warning that it is time to bend down and have a look at the level NOT that it is nearly out or dangerously low on oil.

Paul

PS Red warning lights are a completely different thing of course!

Hi Paul,

I'm quite sure that it is a faulty OBC level sensor, took the bike out last night on a job intermitantly shows Oil OK, then Check Oil. I will give the dealers a call and get it booked in

Hi Guys,

Fault turned out to be OBC Oil Level Sensor :blast . The kind gentlefolk of Vines Guildford swapped out in a most timely fashion. :thumb

On my 1200RT, the sensor isn't pessimistic as the thing drinks oil, even after 9000 miles, don't ignore it or assume it is a faulty sensor!
