Oil

Right, we know what oil to use, BUT.........
Where on the oil guage glass do i fill it up too!!!
And how much oil should i be using. I travel no more than 10miles a day, 6 times a week.But now and then i go for a good blip.
I had a V-Strom and that never needed topping up. Is this because it's a dirrerent type motor...i'm no spanner monkey.

It's a R1150GS, on a 51 plate and has done just over 12k....

With mine, i check the oil after a run. Leave it on the sidestand for a few minutes while getting me coat off. Wheel it into the garage, put it on the mainstand. Then look at the oil, I aim to have it above the red central dot, but not at the top, otherwise you won't know if you've put too much in.

Others may do it differently, the main thing is to check it the same way each time. Cold will be different to hot, I've been confused in the past

Mines on 24,000 and doesn't appear to be using much oil, earlier in its life it did. But "they all do that sir", they have a reputation for using quite a bit compared to a Jap bike, but this should improve with mileage. Something to do with being air cooled & the engine layout, oil settles in the bores, so takes longer to run in.
