On a Wing and a prayer 😃

Safe riding.
Ta .

Was interesting . First 100 miles in the dark with temperatures -1 to -3 and freezing fog that stuck to everything.
There was a clue when I got off the ferry and the ramp was iced over 😳

But the Wing is a planted beast and roads were mostly dry .

All good fun. Heated Keis vest and pants were ace . Vest on full and pants on medium.
RST heated glove batteries lasted 4 hours on medium .

Made it to Ducati Rennes to sort out X-Diavel service in March .
A few toys in there but not a massive dealership

Conveniently there’s a cafe next door so had a spot of lunch

Just over an hour to my house from here . Need to open it up , fire up the woodburner then ride the 20 minutes to local Super U to get some provisions .

Flagging a bit as only got about 2 1/2 hours sleep ( ferry crossing was only 4 hours )

Looking forward to a glass or two of 🍷 by the woodburner later .

That Transalpine SP is just a 2025 model in a new frock. No mechanical updates, no fancy suspenders, still no cruise control. Nothing but an apparently meh sticker set on an apparently meh bike.

It would be interesting to see that Transalp engine in an X-ADV. 90bhp as opposed to 57.

A Gold Wing on an icy ramp, eh? Nicely negotiated, that man.

No thanks .
I’d rather the 750 in the X-Adv than the Transalp motor . The 750 motor has much more mid range than the Transalp .
Now if they put the Vstrom 800 motor in the X-ADV or indeed the Transalp……be perfect

Got to my house about 1400.
No issues with a single road closed though it’s obvious the river in the valley had broken it’s banks in the last few days but now receded.

All the area in the above picture would have been under water a few days ago.

Lots of action over the weir.Never seen it so flowing

IMG_1705.jpegIMG_1704.jpeg

Lit the woodburner then rode the 20 mile round trip to go shopping.

The temperature had shot up since this morning !

Lovely views over the hills

IMG_1699.jpeg

Left my heated vest and pants at the house and just wore base layers with down jacket under Goretex kit.
The Keis heated seat pad was a godsend

IMG_1695.jpeg

Adds to the comfort, not that the Wing seat needs it but gets nicely hot on the highest of three settings.

Got back to a much warmer cottage

Nice write up thanks for posting
Not particularly exciting but I must admit today was a real challenge . Yet I stayed warm due great heated kit and quality base layers . Just needed heated socks .

Whilst I think of it , this simple balaclava was a game changer. Very thin but very warm

Looks massive in that picture but it’s very neat . Saved the day.
Enabled me to ride for three hours in -3 and freezing fog with visor up and screen down . Without it I would have been fucked.

Just needed heated socks

it's a shame Keis stopped doing the heated insoles. Better than socks in my view so I hope mine keep working. I just leave them in a pair of winter boots that are a wider fitting to take the insoles and thick socks. Daytona Journey boots seem to be wider size for size compared to other Daytonas.
Same with the wiring for the insoles, leave them in a pair of older Rukka trousers with torn liniing, so leave the winter liners in. Wires fitted between outer layers and winter lining.

I’m sure the pants have plug in points for socks

Making the most of the lovely weather.

Heading home to Guernsey this afternoon.
I’m on the slow all weather ferry which takes about 7 hours as can’t dock till 2200 due some weird restriction.Got a cabin to chill out in though.
It runs only on a Saturday but is a safer bet than the more regular fast cat which only takes 2 hours but won’t go in much more than a Force 6 .

I’ve probably only done 6/700 miles but been a great little trip . The weather has been rather shit with either clear skies and freezing fog or 6-9 degrees and grey or raining .
But what do you expect in January ?
Having the right heated and waterproof kit meant I never got cold , apart from my feet the first morning in France .

And the mighty Wing copes with everything .

It’s actually rather liberating and relaxing pottering around in the rain , staying bone dry underneath.

Going to lock the house up mid morning Then head the back way to St Malo and have lunch at my favourite restaurant, Le Castello within the walls before 1430 ferry check in .

Not much of a trip report .
Off to Gran Canaria in just under 3 weeks which will be a tad warmer and hopefully drier 😃

Stopped off in my local Honda dealer yesterday to like at a bagger. How does the bagger handle areas like the Pyrenees or Picos?

Very well .
Took my Wing to Picos in 2023 and Pyrenees last October

It has a very low c of g , bit like a GS so is much more flickable than it looks .

@EVskiy has ridden it in Germany and someone like @Skid06 will vouch for it handling the Picos etc just fine .
