Left house today with range saying 140miles thinking "70mile trip, jobs a good’un". 25 miles in that had dropped down to 70, 40miles in down to 38 (with warning light etc coming on) so have filled up (at services prices - eeeek) and reset the trip count to see how many miles I actually get from the tank.

Just wondering if anyone else noticed the same with theirs/how accurate and rough tank range should be (assuming 140miles a day at a little over national on motorway?

Tank Range

On a touring holiday last year around Scotland, fully loaded and 2 up, and finding that there was no filling station on the A68 once I was down to "reserve" and needed one, I eventually ran out 2 miles from Jedburgh but had completed best part of 30 miles with the gauge reading "0". I have just changed my tank for an Adventure one and had run the bike down to "0" to aid the change over and found there was well over a litre of fuel in the tank when I emptied what was left.

It all depends on how you ride. It takes the fuel consumption at your present speed etc so if you are thrashing the tits off it and it's windy, you will see it drop like a stone.

I've seen over 550 miles on mine when I'm in the US riding gently but I never rely on it. However, when mine says 5 miles left it means it......:D

I've had it down to 1mi, caning it across normandy to le havre from calais. It slowed down as I came off the motorway, and I made it to the petrol station o.k. in the centre of town. 250mi door to door. Panniers and fat bloke.

Riding gently home, had 100mi left.

as they say YMMV.

I usually base my fuel consumption on 10 miles per litre (adv tank of 33L)...done me fine so far.....:thumb2

I normally find that I'm achieving 12-14 miles per litre when I fill up...:clap

Ok guess I will keep an eye on things
i suppose I do thrash it more than i need to on my commute into work (only have the bike)
but even doing that takes 90mins each way!

oh well, we will see what happens
cheers y'all

If I am caught out and need petrol and the price is on the high side I just put a tenners worth in and then fill up to the brim when I next see a garage/supermarket selling cheaper. Where I am the difference can be over 7 pence per litre between garages only a few miles apart.
