On the tops again this week

Big drives on this moor but it’s a great place to be. That’s my lad in the distance, the youngsters get the long walks 😂
Having a week off next week to catch up on the stuff I should be doing.

Agreed but you know what keepers are like they have their own thoughts about how things are done !

Understood...but if restricted to swiping, then best avoiding straight lines? Few wiggles would look better?

Dogs are skinny and weather is changing. Got a few more dates in October but can’t see it going on much longer tbh.
Definitely avoided the paddock with these lot in.

Two moor charity shoot yesterday and up on Scott trial territory today. Chilly wind so took shelter in an unused butt. Lot of effort goes into the stonework on these.

My old Lowa Hunter GTX have finally had enough after eight seasons of trudging over the Grouse moor and Lowa have them at 30% off so I’ve treated myself to a new pair. Not cheap but I can thoroughly recommend these boots if you like a high leg boot and spend a lot of time walking in damp or harsh conditions.

I moved onto Lowas after 2 pairs of Meindls let me down. Good kit.

Have you seen this...

Thread '******OCTOBER FLASH SALE****** Lowa Hunter GTX Evo Extreme Boots'

Too late by the look of it!

Edit...phew...same price!

Mine arrived today. I think I’ll save them for next season as we are just about done. I can’t see us going into November maybe a few rough Pheasant days but I prefer to be on the move not standing about tapping 😂

Last days of the 2025 season for us.
Started out bright and sunny but the mist rolled in this afternoon. One of the guns bought us fish and chips which was a nice gesture. Got a couple of family days coming up then we are done.
It’s been a good season all things considered with plenty of birds over the two moors despite the heather beetle issues.

Time to catch up on all the things I should have been doing since August !

Decent young/old ratio?
Seems to have been a patchy season up here, but was hearing of one estate keen to have at least one more go before the finish...
Love grouse! :fnikefork

Great pictures, we used to visit Grinton Moor with our Cocker dog Oscar when we lived in Leyburn 2014 ish

Before that I was involved with a number of shoots both as a syndicate member and later as a beater.....see the picture below taken in 2008....that's me in the centre of the picture leaning on my stick, with my lovely Yellow Labrador dog 'Kite'

Plenty of kids come along in the holidays and the old boys migrate to the flank eventually. Keepers lads age seven and nine come along when not at school and they can move across the moor !
Think we have an extra day coming up but to be confirmed.

It’s a tough moor with all the hidden rocks and remains of mine workings but a great day out and brilliant memories for you.
I don’t shoot anymore but enjoy the exercise and seeing the dogs working and the banter everyone who comes along wants to be there so there’s no whining or negativity which is unusual in the workplace these days !

If anyone wants to get into Pheasant beating there’s a Facebook page for Beaters and pickers up and shoots often ask for beaters.
Grouse is pretty much invitation by recommendation though.
