I finally gave in, and took my wife out on the GS today, as she's been asking for weeks. Putting the bike into 2 up on the ESA was quite strange, as the ride height was much higher, and you could see the bike rising. But once we were off, all was well, and she couldn't stop laughing when I got the front wheel in the air over some hump back bridges!

On the move, I couldn't even tell she was there, but as the ride height is higher, had to be careful where we stopped, to make sure the ground was even.

I have a feeling she's hooked!

My wife loves the GS it's great 2-up, I don't even bother changing the ESA I just leave it in 1 person can't tell any difference with her on the back or not! I only alter the suspension when we go away and are fully loaded. Taking her out all the time helps when I want a new bike, if she likes it on the back I almost get a blank cheque to get what I want

If the ride height is higher two up your and your good lady must be fairly light weight. The two up pre load is to keep the bike even as more weight is added at the rear, Running on Solo may be more suitable.
Mrs Sooty had to ride pillion all the way to France and back, she found it a comfy place to be despite catching her thighs on the grab handle front. The rear seat, top box and panniers took a bit of a bashing from her getting on and off, but nothing compared to the bruises she got on her shins.

I keep mine in solo while 2 up, makes it a lot more safer for me, I'm struggling with grabby brakes when pulling up mind!

Pretty much the same here, but we are considering the news GS and Multistrada to replace the RT. Will test both over the next few weeks when the RT and 1199 are being serviced.

I really liked the new GS when I rode it just after it came out, but wifey likes the look of the new Ducati, be rude not to try both.

SWMBO preferred the comfort of the RT, but still enjoys the GS, especially as it encourages me to ride more, err, enthusiastically

I always switch to the two-up setting as it keeps the bike level and ensures a very quick turn-in into corners. Sport damping is reserved for holidays when the luggage is fitted.

It does wheelie more changing into second and third, so Dynamic is the best engine mode to use to stop the TCS spoiling he fun too much.

Mrs cookie (a very experienced pillion) liked the KTM 1190 Adventure even though I nearly lost her off the back twice on a demo, so I bought one - result!

Thanks guys. I have a feeling she'll want to come out more now. I thought of trying the bike on single rider, so will give this a go next time.

Usually the only time I know she is there is when she bashes me on the back of the helmet when she falls asleep I must say things like a large tank bag are harder to get used to when we go away

Same here....!!
I thought my 55plate hexhead rode really well with a pillion.
However, the new bike takes it to another level.
Overtakes are even easier due to low down grunt. Maintaining cruising speeds approaching the legal limit is effortless. Road mode is great when around town, in fact with the pillion, rain mode makes filtering in slow traffic a less snatchy affair.
