After 6 months of happy riding I've suddenly started developing a very sore back after even the shortest of rides. I have the bars slightly tilted towards me and the seet on low setting. Any tips for how to solve this before I'm crippled!

depends on your own personal back problem.

i like to lean foward with feet back.

Contact Melvin Hunter at http://www.motorbike-seats.co.uk/
have your seat remade with a gel insert, this will take the pressure off your cocycx, the little bone that was your tail, get it made wider at the rear and a little higher in front and lower at the back, Melvin knows exactly what to do.

It's just an idea, but i sometimes work outside in the cold and this makes me ache. Have you taken the thermals out of your riding gear now we are having nice weather? if you are getting a draft you may get aches and pains (so my mum says!!) it could be a combination of vibration form your bike and the cold? hope you find a solution Timbo, Get well soon!

What do you call the back-protector;
you can wear it separatly, or it's one inside the jacket?

I started to wear the type to wear seperatly when I started to ride my selfes. (I was a passanger for many years.)
It's warm!
It feel like it's electricity inside, but it's not!
And it supports my back too.
...and if I hit the ground I hope it protects my body...

So why not try it, it won't heart;)

Go to the gym and ask the personal trainer, they may identify bad posture or poor inner core strength, wearing kidney belts and support may further weaken abdominal tone.
Not that I'm Mr 6-pack, more like Mr party -7 remember them?

I was dreading someone telling me to go to the gym!! I think outer belly weakness may be the problem, never mind inner core!

If you want help

I will need your measurements and Photos if possible(side view of you on the bike, and detail of your set up,angles settins,,etc)

I don't do this profesionally(in away i do)but I have a lot of experience in ergonomics & biomecanics.

let see some Photos,at least I can tell you if is ergonomic or is a medical issue.
