I went to look at an 1150GSA yesterday and after one too many wines last night decided to make an offer.
Anyway, we came to a deal and I collected today.
Gave it a good wash and covered it in ACF50.
It’s by no means mint and looks better in the pics but it’s not bad.

The Hepco and Becker top box was new in January and the pannier rails new in November .Plus he had new Tourance tyres fitted last week, then decided it’s still too heavy for him so he sold it .
Now the issues is he has had a lowered Hagon shock fitted. It’s rides lovely but it’s too cramped for my dodgy back/discs/nerves.
As you can see in the pics above it came with the (original, I assume ) Showa shock .
Now I’m not sure it’s wise to refit a 20 year old shock when I could get something better put on whilst I have the opportunity.
I did toy with getting the shock refurbed, and thought Maxtons did it but called them and they don’t .

So my options are

Refit shock as is
Get refurbed if possible.
Buy better shock such as Nitron.
Cut losses and sell to oompah loompah as is .

What do you reckon ?

Had a look and a Nitron shock is about £550 but another £350 on top for remote preload adjuster.

But if I went down this route I’m not sure it’s worth paying the extra wonga as surely if I load it up I just need a couple of turn using a C-spanner and it would only be once/twice a year due to having other bikes .

Or as the bike has only done 20k miles so you think the OE shock will be fine to shove back on as is ?

Ta muchly for any (constructive) thoughts .

Changing the shock won’t make it any less cramped, that’s all down to the seat, peg, bars triangle

The original shock looks to be in good condition visually, looks like you’ve got the original (grey) spring and a Hyperpro (purple) that’s fitted

I’d check the spring rates to see which suits your needs and try the original shock as it has remote preload adjustment, which I guess the Hagon doesn’t?
If it’s toast get the Nitron or similar

If the rear shock goes up for sale I would be interested.

What's wrong with the Hagon shock? As far as the OE one goes, Denzo @ TT Tech will have it good as new for less than any replacement unit.
As I thought I’d explained above, the Hagon is a shorter shock so the bike is lowered and I want it back up to normal height to give me more leg room.

I did wonder but surely with a longer shock the seat will be higher so more leg room ?

The seat and footpegs are both fitted to the subframe so the seat/peg height shouldn’t change but the reach to the floor will, as will the shock rate if you change it.

If you are long enough in the inside leg measurement, raise the suspension then lower the pegs to improve ergonomics.

Ah, missed the fact the Hagon is shorter. As I mentioned, if the OE one is standard, get it refurbed by Denzo.
Or just refit it and see.

Hah, your idea of a shitter and mine are poles apart.
That looks great in the photos and better cosmetically than one I bought off my mate few years ago.

If it's reliable then probably worth hanging on to and sorting the shock/height issues for your needs.

👍

Do you mean @Denz0 ? :D

@Arsey send fella your enquiry, aparently he does better job with OEM shocks composted to what it was like brand new out the box.

Pizza box looks good :D
