Oops-bought an old shitter- collective thoughts required please .

I went to look at an 1150GSA yesterday and after one too many wines last night decided to make an offer.
Anyway, we came to a deal and I collected today.
Gave it a good wash and covered it in ACF50.
It’s by no means mint and looks better in the pics but it’s not bad.

The Hepco and Becker top box was new in January and the pannier rails new in November .Plus he had new Tourance tyres fitted last week, then decided it’s still too heavy for him so he sold it .
Now the issues is he has had a lowered Hagon shock fitted. It’s rides lovely but it’s too cramped for my dodgy back/discs/nerves.
As you can see in the pics above it came with the (original, I assume ) Showa shock .
Now I’m not sure it’s wise to refit a 20 year old shock when I could get something better put on whilst I have the opportunity.
I did toy with getting the shock refurbed, and thought Maxtons did it but called them and they don’t .

So my options are

Refit shock as is
Get refurbed if possible.
Buy better shock such as Nitron.
Cut losses and sell to oompah loompah as is .

What do you reckon ?

Had a look and a Nitron shock is about £550 but another £350 on top for remote preload adjuster.

But if I went down this route I’m not sure it’s worth paying the extra wonga as surely if I load it up I just need a couple of turn using a C-spanner and it would only be once/twice a year due to having other bikes .

Or as the bike has only done 20k miles so you think the OE shock will be fine to shove back on as is ?

Ta muchly for any (constructive) thoughts .
You’re brave with your back
They’re a lump
I would ditch the Hagon and refit the oem shock with Hyperpro spring

I’d have another few glasses of wine and off it?! lol
It’s not like you’ve got fuck all better to do with your other bikes etc. Old bikes in the hands of perfectionists can get very expensive. New bikes can too!! 😬

Spoke to Mike , the previous owner .
He fitted the lowered Hagon shock . He said that the Hyperpro spring in OE shock is shorter than the original grey.
So first things first, I’m going to try source a standard seat then I might send the OE shock to Denz0 and get it refurbed and fitted with a standard Hyperpro suited to my weight .
Turns out the bike had new BMW heated grips last year .

if its hobbit spec,

im over your way next week, ill pop in for a gander and if its ok take it of your hands for a tenner, and thats doing you a favour ;)

Took the old girl out for a ride this morning . She’s runs smoother than a Swiss watch.
BUT I need to source a taller seat and change the foot pegs.
Denz0 messaged me back and said the OE Showa shock is better than the lowered Hagon that’s on it but the Hyperpro spring is a shorter one than standard , so I really need to get him to refurb the Showa and fit a standard length spring more suited to my weight.
So I really need to source a seat first before doing anything else .
Plan B, IF I can’t find a seat will be to sell it as is-got a mate in UK who’s vertically challenged so would be perfect for him but I’d rather keep it.
I joined an 1150GSA Facebook group, and asked about a seat and somebody said to get hold of Premium Parts Emporium, but I reckon they are scammers judging by the replies I got !

I reckon that's a GS seat (possibly recovered?) and although I think it fits a GSA, it's not right.

I'd get a GSA seat.
Yes. I won’t be using them .
I’d love to get a GSA seat but they appear to be like rocking horse shit

maybe get yours recovered then?

Friend of mine has one on his GSA that's built up to suit. He's 6'7" I think.

That’s an option but as I have a low shock and low seat it would be a shame to lose the option to have it low if I do get rid of it at some point as it would be perfect for an oompah loompah.
Obviously it’s a keeper for now as I never buy bikes on a whim and change my mind 😜

Arsey, an option for the seat is to get your original one customised and recovered.
I used these guys in Peterborough for my interceptor seat and Tiger 800 seat, had them increase the seating height for room and also fit gel inserts for comfort + some customised stitching. Top class workmanship. Web link below but they are also on FB under Motostitch. They were reasonably priced as well, post your seat, they post it back.

Ta for the link . Got a guy over here that could possibly do it but for now I’d like to try find a standard seat so I can keep the low shock and low seat as is .
But I’ll certainly bare them in mind 👍🏻

Great bike! But as JB said, a bit of a lump. However....I'm on my third having really regretted selling the first two. I keep thinking about selling as the years advance but will hold on for the foreseeable future until I can't move it in and out of the garage. As far as seats go, I'd ask in the for sale and wanted section. I've got spare seats but wrong colour etc. for you. Likewise shocks, I bet there are a few kicking around. I'm a massive fan of Ohlins on the 1150GSA but I'm sure the other options are a similar improvement (y)

Yep and don't feck about with complicated options... Either a standard bench seat or a touratech/wunderlich type, refurb the standard shock which were much more compliant than the standard GS and get some lower pegs... I bought some £50 milled alloy lookalikes from a UK supplier and they're great if a small amount taller than Fastaways... The lowering links/standard pegs will make your feet wider...

Still available from BMW by the looks of it, at around £293 (+vat). Alternatively, get the parts to make it a dual seat which gives much more flexibility and an underseat toolkit store.

I think you have a future classic there. I’d return it to standard and if it doesn’t feel right for you, just put it in a corner of the garage for a while and wait for its value to rise. Personally I think the R1150 variants are the best of breed, I have a Gs and am currently in the Mosel on an RT. I’ve owned loads of different types of bike, even a new 1200 Gs, which I was so disappointed in I sold it and bought an 1150 again.

I have a set of the Migsel pegs. They moved the pegs down and forwards. The Down bit is ok but they bring the pegs closer to the brake and gear lever. I have size 9 feet and change gear with the inside of my boot on the bike which is not ideal. I think I'll fit Wunderlich ones.
