OOPS What have I dont - Wheel Building

Ok, rear wheel badly corroded so tired ceaning, no joy.

so said take it apart. then after had started i realised this aint a common wheel

so any tips now to rebuild them

have hub out - will blast the paint this.

rim with tyre, remove tyre and going to just hammer out damaged spokes and replace them

if can do this ok will look at doing the front as well

but i think have taken my abilities 1 step 2 far as not used to the tubless setup

Devon Rim and stainless spokes is your only solution

Got to say I don't envy you putting it all back together - BMW cross spoke wheels are renowned as being difficult to build - there are only a couple of companies in the country who will touch them. I've built a few standard bike wheels (and plenty of pushbike wheels) but I'd give my GS wheels to a pro.

That said, I'm probably just a sceered wus

yes after taking them apart i checked advrider, turns out cant re use them as have hammer them out. also spotted the grub screw. must say lot the nipples were loose.

but why oh why are they so hard

same as every other wheel, rim, spokes, nipples and hub. get offset right and away you go

i can see why may be difficult to tune it but dont see why so hard

The pull of the spoke acts in a weird direction and has a completely different influence on wheel geometry than conventional wheel (which you can picture given that they cross to the opposite side of the rim). Apparently they are factory built in a jig with the spoke tension set by torquing them. I guess this is fine when everything is new and shiny but a lot more difficult with older components. I suppose this is where the skill comes in...

No really it is hard, many pro wheelbuilders won't touch them with a bargpole

well nothing can go further out of shape, rim is on table hub on floor to out of ture not an issue just yet

but going try chance building it, if cant get it right will strip it and send to pro lad

You're probably better off buying a wheel from ebay - although black rims and stainless spokes from the Devon rim company do look great
