Operation Emerald Escape

I still missed it :)

Anyway, we blah a bit of lounge time and settle down for the crossing.

Nice and smooth.

I’m looking forward to SW Scotland this afternoon

Tracy gets carried away on the snacks and goes for a walk around the boat.

The captain reports a slight shift in the Vessel C of G ......

So rather than hack along the A72 we head up towards the Clatteringshaws centre.

Not ridden this road for years, it’s as nice as I remember it

A quick bit of jetboil action at the centre then onwards to Dumfries, a place I’m only used to seeing as I pass it....

Still nice weather, if we can get to Dumfries tonight then through the lakes tomorrow and back to Leeds we’ve got it made

So Dumfries pops out and we pull up at the nice looking holiday inn.

It’s out of town a tiny bit, ideal to make me feel the bike is safer, and perfect distance to amble into town.

Firstly check in....

So shower and amble into town, it’s Tracy’s birthday today so a boy of present opening is in order.....

I’ve splashed out on a pair of bike suitable socks

The gardens on the way into town are really beautiful, then an amble along the river.

I’ve passed through here many times, note to self, take things in a bit more .....

I did actually get Tracy this jacket for her birthday.

Clearly she approves of both it, and the gardens

So after a stroll round the quaint little town square we head back up the hill through the park to the hotel.

A great meal follows and we get our heads down in anticipation of a great day tomorrow, the forecast looks good so I think we may have got away with it, back of the net all round

Day 11

Dumfries - Lakes - Leeds

So we take a very rare piece of motorway to Carlisle and then head around the coast to enter the lakes from the north.

It stays dry still so result again, as we enter the high ground there's a sniff of drizzle about, Ive been to too many bike prangs here, so off the gas and tootle through for a stop in Ambleside, we go t a beautiful cafe Id passed before but never used.

Brew taken, we head out and cross the M6 en route to Hawes.

Im not really a fan of bike meet places, I can't be doing with the, 'yeah and then I dropped the psi by 3 and was faster than Biaggi' type bollocks........but I want to show Tracy the Ribbledale viaduct, so I put my miserable unsociable cocksucker feelings aside and pop in for a brew and a cake. its dried totally now so a nice way to end the trip.

Anyway, having chatted to a nice chap with an old RRW blade in exactly same colours I used to have, (no mention of psi at all), we head off on the small road towards the viaduct, it’s lovely and reminds me of the Helmsley TT route.

On arrival at the viaduct, (always an amazing sight no matter how many times I see it), we stop for a look see, then head off on the last leg, Ribbledale to Leeds.
