Operation Emerald Escape

Piccy TITANICUS RUSTYFERROUS

Tracy was wondering why I was insisting she move to a very particular spot.

I blagged on about the light, angles, aspect etc.......

Jus showed my Missus, we both larrfed :D

Day 9

Bandit - Bangor - Belfast

So I wake up and very tentatively peek out of the curtains.......

It’s sunny and dry, this is getting silly now in October !

I go for a 5 min walk, to the bathroom and get ready for a nostalgia trip.

It’s been about 25 years since I did the Strangford Lough thingy and ferry, I’m looking forward to today very much.

Breakfast, saddle up, first stop is West Belfast ..........

So a quick peak behind the curtain as it were, and theres still a lot of legacy murals etc.

The peace wall is an interesting diversion, Tracy is genuinely shocked that this "Mini Berlin Wall" existed in the UK.

We watched a few videos on the troubles last night, (I know how to show a girl a good time), and Milltown cemetery jumps out at us.

Odd to comprehend that its the same place we watched last night.

We exit via the 'Balls on the Falls', make a right and head off towards Hillsborough, site of The Anglo Irish Agreement, however I'm more concerned with how nice the bends are....... answer..... very :okay

Hillsborough is a lovely little place, we fail to see Tony Blair or George Bush, decide that politics is not our bag......

Quick coffee and head for the hills.

South Armagh, the peaceful farming area of Northern Ireland........ fuck me..........

So after a quick tour of various “key areas” we head off towards Newry for a coffee.

Never been here before, to be honest the place looks a bit tired, but we find a nice hotel for coffee and Strudel.

It’s nice to be able to sit inside again.

The weather remains dry but a bit cooler today.

I’ll take that in late Oct

Passing through Warrenpoint ,(have a google if you’re under say 30), we hit the coast and head towards the ferry south of Strangford Lough.

The hills on the left look just like Scotland, I guess they’re on a similar latitude so makes sense.

I’ve not been on this ferry since about 87 I’d guess. Blimey, I’m a proper old toss pot has been now .....

Strangford to Portaferry.

Regardless of length , (ooh suit you sir), I love going on ferries.

They are the gateway to your next mini adventure.

Tracy tells me to stop being a cock and get some food out...

I’m clearly writing this retrospectively, so we now pass a point where last week I attended a very bad crash involving a bike.

I think back to passing the point safely not so long ago, there but for the grace etc...

Anyway, stay safe people.

Onwards, we’re going to have a lovely day in Bangor.....

Sing along now....

Portavogie passes as we route up the coast, the sun setting on our left.

The road is great and traffic free so we make Bangor in good time.

It’s a bit cold now, so we crack on past Bangor, so have a very short lovely time, and go past Hollywood on way back to Belfast.

Just one more bit of culture to fit in....

Storming Stormont.

Tracy indicates the amount of apexes I’ve made correctly during the trip.

She’s being generous.

So back to the hotel...... and memories of being stuck on top of a FBH in Spain with nowhere to sleep jump out at me........

Sign on the door reads,

“Corona, we’re shut, please piss off somewhere else”

What a bummer of a way to end this bit of the trip, most importantly my bel vita stash is in the room ffs.....

Lovely lady sees us looking dejected and let’s us in, they’re honouring current bookings so we are saved.

Food is off, so it’s Bel Vita and Belly Button Fluff Wraps for dinner.

We have a drink and think back over the Ireland orbital......

It’s been brilliant in all respects, and we have Scotland and the Lakes to come tomorrow........

Day 10

Ferry - Dumfries.

So yet again it’s dry as we make our way through Belfast centre again for the morning ferry to Cairnryan.

Being a clown I turn into the ferry terminal we arrived at, and get sent a mile down the road to the correct one.

GPS, and coco can’t even find the correct ferry terminal.

Why don’t the put a huge sign up ffs......
