Hi,

I'm Blyth born and exiled in Derbyshire. But I'm allowed back for a visit later in the week! Thought I might re-visit a few old haunts but am out of touch with the latest RoW staus of some of the routes. So...

Are there any legal routes across the Otterburn ranges towards Alwinton?

What's the status of the trail from Prendwick towards Ingram?

What's the latest on the trail though Slaley Forest towards Blanchland?

And are these routes suitable riding an '86 G/S PD loaded with panniers and riding on my own (as usual)?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Steve.

OTTERBURN RANGE

I it is still open , come in from Alwinton and ignore the dead end sign what a great road through the valleys and over the tops,

Go into the biker cafe in Rothbury I am sure there is a booklet which shows the roads,
watch out for mental sheep, i hit two in one go last year and was dead lucky not to fall off, the sheep weren't very happy tho,

You can also go over the Kielder Forest Trail from the A68 (near where you would come down from Cottonhope Burn on the road from Alwinton) to Kielder village. If the red flags are not flying there are a few other roads and easy trails over the ranges.

Thanks..

Thanks guys. Great links. Just got to watch the weather now. Expectin snow yet?

Route from blanchland past penypye house open and legal. Should easily be able to mamage on any big bike, watch out for the sandy section half way accross, will only be a problem if you are going quick. Give it a try you will enjoy.

Has the Gamekeeper/Farm Manager changed? Used to be constant hassle/confrontation when using that route.

I went through there in the Disco a couple of weeks ago without any hassle, perhaps it's just you:D

TRF were compiling a case with a view to Court action..perhaps it's resolved.

Yep..I love a bit of confrontation..story of my life:D

Cheers...

Thanks for the help Guys, just setting off for North Yorks today and tonight, rolling thru Durham and Northumberland tomorrow - Coldberry End, highest road in England, Keilder Forest Drive, Brandon Ford, etc.

Coldberry End...

It was in very good condition on Friday. Easy for a loaded airhead with no back up. Easily do-able on a bigger GS even with road tyres - I've done it in the past in a VW camper and an old Fiat Panda. But it's still the highest road in England - 681m. Blanchland was good too. Sand wasn't very deep. No problems. Should be possible again on the bigger GSs. Loads of lovely little byways around Alston as well. Didn't get as far as Keilder, Prendwick or Brandon. This time.

Steve.
