Our 1st R1200GS SE arrives

..... and no alloys

why would you want alloys?

Spoked wheels look a lot nicer, but thats my opinion.

Hell, if you don't like spoked wheels, take the bike, ebay the wheels, buy some alloys. You'l be quite a few quid up as the alloys are cheaper.

Okay:

Hand Guards (and for those other eagle eyed tossers) Pannier Fastenings and LED Indicators are included in the Premium Packs.

Magic stands are orderable, made from unobtainium, they're on back order with no forecasted deliver date.

Finally, just put my house on with the local bookies that the boxer engine will continue IN THE NEW 1300 VERSION TO BE RELEASED SOON!
Now get back to work you lot.

Paul

Corrected for you Paul:D
PS. The GSSE looks superb:thumb2

Hi again,

Well it arrived late yesterday and is now sitting in the showroom waiting to go in the workshop for build & PDI.

I've got to say it looks of whole lot better in real life than any of the pictures I've seen (isn't that always the case).

Paul if you can take some pics with it in between a standard gs and a gsa it would give people a great idea about some of the differences between the models...

HI,

I've been watching the forum for a while and am seriously considering a GS, originally I was looking at the 650/800 because I thought the 1200 would be too cumbersome for me at 5'9''. I have ridden these and found the height of the 800 OK. On doing a bit of research I noticed the standard 1200 is actually lower than the 800 which threw that into the mix and I am going to take one out soon.

Now I see this SE has been launched which would appear to be the one to buy, I do not see the need for the adventure model. I will be doing some mild green laneing and road riding. Trouble is the SE is bigger than the standard and therefore I assume bigger than the 800 which really is my maximum size.

Which brings me rather long windedly too my question relevant to this thread, Should I test ride the adventure or the standard GS to compare against the SE as I assume there will not be any demo SE's about as they are order only.

Hi Jettdt

Welcome to the forum.

If you want to arrange a test ride with me, the best way to address the seat height is if I use a regular GS and borrow the seat off an Adventure which will give you the exact height of the SE model.

Give me a call to book a time and date 01420 587007

Hi Bahnstormer

Thanks for the quick reply, you are quite a way from me so I will have to have a good look as to when I could get to you. I will give you a ring soon to try and arrange, how long will you have the SE there for bty.

Jettdt,

We may have it here until the end of the month, we surprised our customer with its early arrival so its just depends on how long can he hold back the excitement of getting his new pride and joy.

Anytime for the demo, just give me a call the day before you hope to get in and I'll make sure the demo is available with the GSA seat for you.

Regards
Paul

Low seat option

Low seat options are also available on this bike as I understand so I wouldn't worry jettdt, I think this would bring it to 20mm below the standard GS seat height at low setting? If it was me, I'd go for the SE as it combines the best aspects of the GS and GSA (unless you don't want to stop for a fag/bag of chips/bounty bar/Irn Bru etc.... and a wee top up of petrol when crossing a 270 mile stretch of desert)

I think your right about the SE, only thing is I really like the grey colour not so sure about white but will have to see it in the flesh.

Some early R1200GS SE photos

I took these today at Barnstormer's. Just my amateur efforts, but will give you a sight of the actual bike.

Paul at Barnstormers says the accessories on the bike are those that come as standard on the SE. The black wire wheels do look good!

Thanks to Paul for agreeing to the photos. Paul says they plan to upload some photos themselves next week with a GSA, SE and a standard GS, to illustrate the differences and similarities.

Thanks

Thanks DL, that's the first proper pics we've seen of the SE. I thought it would come with the GSA paniers instead of the Vario?

That does look good, I think I prefer the vario panniers also. The others are probably good for swallowing all your supplies for going around the world, sadly I wont be doing that...

Popped in for another reason and saw this bike today. I really cant make my mind up about the SE. It is neither one nor tuther and just looks a mish mash IMHO. Yes some extra bits and a saving to be had, but I still think you would be better with a standard GS and dress it to please or just get the GSA which this hybrid is trying to aspire to. You certainly cant help thinking that this indicates the end of the 1200.

1200GS SE

I made the effort and went and had a look at it in the flesh yesterday. I love it. I was struggling to decide between the GSA and the standard GS, so this is what i was looking for. Got shown some spanky fog lights with cool brackets, and some equally cool heel gaurds which i have a feeling may be adorning my bike when i get it.:augie

The Mrs even likes it, and she is a sportsbike fan!!:thumb2
