There are four of us off to the Pyrenees going from Hull to Zeebrugge and back 5th-15th September 2013.
Two of us camping two staying in b&b.(could be interesting)
Though we have no real plans as yet,our thoughts are.

3 days down through France.

4 days across the Pyrenees

3 days back up to the ferry.

Never done this before,so any tips advice general banter or p**s taking gratefully received and accepted.

OK, let's go piss taking....

Unfortunately, the 'planning' seems to involve little more that putting a notification into UKGSer that a bod intends to make a jaunt, either tomorrow or six months hence to western Europe.

The announcement is often accompanied by a rider that they are: 'Seat of the pants, hey, what's the problem, bring it on' merchants. A description often at odds with their badly disguised plea for help.... or maybe they just want to tell us what they are doing next June?

Now less piss taking, as far as is possible....

You are nor the first to undertake this jaunt. Take 30 minutes out of your busy schedule to see what others have asked and what (wonder of wonders) have even managed to do. Then come back to tell us what you have 'planned' and then how well it all went.

'Adventure' motorcyclists, I piss 'em (to misquote Harold Shand)

PS How is your bed going? Has the stink from the en-suite vanished?

PPS There are FOUR of you on this jaunt. This suggests that there are at least two motorcycles. Put your combined brain cells together and see what you might be able to come up with. It's only 10 days, of which two or more are taking up with a ferry crossing. We can safely assume that the captain is not sending out similar pleas, which leaves you with eight. Eight divided by four is...um....er... two. That is two days each to 'plan'. I'll accept that women might be involved, so that might put an added burden on your shoulders, but that's life.

A little harsh.... In fairness, he has said the 5th - 15th September 2013

Which in turn will lead to many valid questions like.....

What is the weather like in September?

What clothes should I wear?

Can you recommend anywhere to stay?

:pullface

Seriously though, whilst I am not that active on here, I always like to see peeps suggestions, some good, some bad but I usually end up doing all my own organising and routes, so that I can tailor things exactly how I like them.

The search facility is great, as are you numerous routes but I would never put anyone down for running their ideas past other more experienced peeps ;)

Well as you asked for opinions etc and in the same vein as Wapping, my thoughts were with only 4 peeps going on the 'touring hol' and before you even start theres a two way split with on-suite n fluffy towels v the camping site bog? As you stated very interesting indeed. I must be old fashioned, but (Our) bi yearly tours usually 3 or 4 (max) of us, we have it on the principle of one team and all in the warm bath together (pun) (I know some large group touring parties arrange to have mutual meet up points) and not withstanding the distance and short timescale your dealing with I would be worried that the camping lot would still be looking for the supermarket for brekkie fresh bread and cheap fuel etc at 10 in the morning and your distance required on the bike would be well err a challenge. Sorry if a negative outlook, but been there before.
Were off doing north spain and a bit or Portugal next year, ferry to Santander n return 12 days later, cant wait, all B n B lol

Only a week.Heck not much time you really need a couple of weeks.

Well, just for starters, I'd aim for the Pau area heading out west of Paris (Le Mans, Tours, Poitiers, Bourdeaux perhaps). I'd then head South and East on the N260 but probably turn North before Andorra (I don't like Andorra that much). I'd head back via Clermont Ferrand-Troyes-Rheims or similar. 3 days to cover about 800 miles to get down/ back means you can avoid a lot of motorways.

The only thing I would say is that a lot of people (myself included) are less relaxed taking a slow route back than when going out (despite what may have been planned). I might consider using motorways for the return and allow just 2 days (an extra day in the mountains). When doing this, I always make a point of staying somewhere nice and/or interesting on the middle night of the return journey, otherwise it can be a bit of an anti-climax and just a slog home, if a trip to Hull could ever be considered an anti-climax.

To be honest, 400-450 miles on the last day to get the Hull ferry is a bit far for my taste but perfectly doable. Get an early start, avoid general F'ing about and you'll have time for Moules et Frites in town before the ferry.
