Is it possible to change the spoked R1100GS wheels into more solid and clean friendly R1200GS wheels?

The front might, but the back is the wrong stud patern. r1100, r1150 and r850's cast wheels would fit though.

Comme ça!

Just done mine:

Don't get to excited, you haven't fitted 1200GS wheels.

Anyway back to the origianl question, - the 1200 rear is a 5 stud fixing, and the front 1200 wheel doesn't have a speedo drive, the 1200 speedo is electronic, and the spindle is larger..

Of course, anything is possible. But it will cost a lot of money and need lots of work.

I was just reading Gabriel's conversion thread. :thumb2

Very interesting. I'm at work, so I'm really just browsing through it.

I just thought about it since I don't go off road (yet) and wondered if I could do a cheap retrofit (with 2nd hand wheels). Mainly for looks and easy of cleaning (but if it improves street handling, the better)

It does seem to be a tad more complicated than just bolt off, bolt on.

Correct - my post was a response to the previous post about using 1100 or 1150 wheels :thumb

Not much - just need the wheels (mine were 1150RT ones), correct rear wheel bolts (I have a spare set if you want) and a correct speed drive (again, I used an RT one)

So no difference between the 1150GS and the 1100GS in terms of bolts and fitting?

I read your thread in detail now. And I know get the answer by Steptoe.

So either you conver to cast 1150RT wheels, but get a smaller front wheel.

Either you convert to 1200GS in the front and 1150RT in the back, but lose your speedometer :augie

It looks great though.... with the smaller front wheel.

.

Either you convert to 1200GS in the front .

The 1150 spindle is too small for the 1200 wheel. And the 1150 forks are too small for the 1200 spindle.

Sounds simple enough to work around  have a look at the two and you'll see the problems

So a smaller front wheel is the only option to go to cast wheels. Good to know.

Man, browsing through this website is so interesting, but also intimidating.

So much mechanics here. I was so proud when I replaced my own brake pads on the FZ-1 a few years ago :)

But it seems like most of you don't care about opening up the engine :-)
