Out on a demo ride - gearbox advice please...

Actually I am / was a 1250 owner and my initial attitude was “never in a million years”.
But my dealer called me with a crazy exchange option so I went for a test ride and a look and came out very satisfied
Have to agree with GSMark on the “feel” through the boots on the gear change. It’s simply not noticeable as it’s simply an electric switch. That’s going to take some getting used to from the distinct change feel through the 1250’s more mechanical quick shifter

I would have liked to have kept my 1250 and bought the new one but alas I don’t earn a captains salary

I wanted to like it and was very open minded. I will go back and ride the 'normal' version with a fruity pipe..If you're a 1250 owner, your default setting will be switched automatically to "Dont like it" said in that Little Britain voice in the wheelchair

I felt exactly the same when I rode one back in October. Can't say I didn't like it but was glad to get back on my bike. Not worth the £10k it could have cost me. I'll end up with one day, I'm sure. I Don't particularly like the whine, suppose i'd get used to it.
This is next on my list to ride. With a full system it’s over the price of a loaded GSA, but there are no pockets in coffins folks.
I thought that if the fanciest GSA is up there I’ll give it a proper ride and I’m yet to try this 2025 PP.
I know it’s more sporty etc and I’ll
Also try the M1000XR. For now the 1250 GSA remains in the garage.

Honda have been producing DCT bikes for years . My 2016 AT DCT was very smooth but the 2018 ATAS DCT had the next generation DCT and that was even better, even blipping the throttle on down changes.
I’d imagine the latest 1100s are even better .
My 2022 Wing DCT is butter smooth.The gears go very slightly out of sync after a few thousand miles but you can resume them in less than 5 minutes and then the changes are literally imperceptible again.
I’m sure the BMW ASA will be refined in future reiterations but to state it’s a game changer , as an honourable member did (
) is a tad ridiculous ,but not unexpected given how some on here can’t see further than the Motorrad brochure….

Very nice, I see the appeal. The fuel consumption and chain would be a major irritation for me. If your pockets are deep enough and the mpg does not matter, then why not?
Yes its new but everyone needs to start somewhere. I am sure the ASA will mature with age and updates. I found it pretty decent compared to the older quickshifter which although good, tried and tested was always clunky. I haven't ridden it yet. I have no idea how good ASA is. If I made a ref to "Game changer" I was referring to the concept. Not the operational competence of the ASA. Would be interesting to see how the ASA compares with the Honda system , though they’ve obviously got a decade or more head start . But I’d only be wasting a dealers time as the latest GSA is certainly not on my radar as I wouldn’t spunk that kind of money on a bike when I can get something more to my liking and for what I need for under half the price .

The M1000XR is a monster - I had a M1000R. Very different bike to a GS, though.
If you love performance, you will love the XR.
It is also lighter than the PP above.
Runs high in the revs thou , your foot will get a workout as its up and down the box all the time , not a back road bike at all. Just could not get on with that engine for the B roads . Looks great but not for me , if I had the choice over the PP would be the bike as the engine is sublime , but the V4s is better as it never get flustered .

Have you tried the latest XR? My 2024 is a lot more civilised than the original, no vibes and the engine is a smooth as butter. Yes it likes to be revved and when you do its turbine smooth and fu***ng quick. I swapped my 2021 V4S for it and have never looked back.Agreed. It is perpetually angry....and loves to be thrashed.

Ive looked back a few times when overtaking a few Xrs
They dont like back roads at all.
