For those mulling this over, here is a proper itinerary which will be pretty close to the final route. Good ehI'll send this out to all who have e-mailed and booked already
Day 1 Sat Fly in to San Francisco and up to Santa Rosa CA and the hotel.
Day 2 Sunday Collect bikes and an optional ride to San Francisco and over the Golden Gate Bridge to acclimatize. Mileage 120 miles.
Day 1 Monday Depart Santa Rosa CA and ride north on the Pacific Coast Highway Hwy 1. We will visit the drive through Redwood tree before riding the Avenue of the Giants road through the forest, which is just off the Hwy 101. Overnight in Eureka CA at Travelodge Eureka. Mileage 250.
Day 2 Tuesday Carry on the PCH before heading inland to our destination of Vancouver WA. We need to do some mileage today but some great riding and scenery. Mileage 418 miles
Day 3 Wed Short run up to Mount St Helens which is active Volcano which last went off in the early 80’s. Great ride up and back and the views from the visitor centre are fantastic. Head north and run along the west side of Seattle to Port Townsend. Mileage 300 miles.
Day 4 Thursday Short ferry ride across Puget sound and then head up to and through the border into Vancouver, Canada. Ride through Vancouver and onto the Sea to Sky road to our overnight stop in Squamish BC. Mileage 170 miles.
Day 5 Friday Ride the Sea to Sky road Hwy 99 past Whistler and to Lillooet. This is a classic Canadian road which twists through the snow capped mountains and past beautiful lakes. After Lillooet, the road follows a gorge until it winds it’s way to Cache Creek and to our cabins at Lac le Jeune. Mileage 233.
Day 6 Saturday Across southern British Columbia and to Lake Louise at the start of the Rocky mountain range. Stunning views of the mountains all around which will leave you speechless. Overnight in Banff.
Day 7 Sunday A gentle run down the fantastic R40 through the mountains and this is one of my favourite roads in North America. We then turn south over some Prairie land that makes you realize how big Canada is before heading into Waterton, which is nestled in the mountains. Mileage 233 miles
Day 8 Monday Day off in Waterton and a chance to relax in these stunning surroundings. Optional boat trips on the lake, a hike into red rock canyon or a swim in Cameron Lake.
Day 9 Tuesday Back into the USA and a short ride through the spectacular Glacier National Park which is very Alpine in appearance. Overnight stop in cabins at Hungry Horse MT and a BBQ with the best Rib Eye steaks you will ever taste. Mileage 130 miles
Day 10 Wed Head down past Flathead Lake and through the huge state of Montana to West Yellowstone. Mileage 352 miles.
Day 11 Thur Ride through Yellowstone National Park and we will visit the famous Old Faithfull Geyser and you will see plenty of strange natural features such as boiling mud pools. There are plenty of Bison and Elk wandering about so you have to take care riding through the park. We will go via Mammoth Hot Springs and out of the east entrance. Overnight in Cooke City Mileage 230 miles
Day 12 Friday Ride up to the Beartooth Pass Hwy 212 at over 10,000ft and is one of the highest tarmac roads in the USA. We will then ride the Dead Indian pass Hwy 296, which is steeped in history and takes us to the Cowboy town of Cody. Mileage 133 miles
Day 13 Sat Day off in Cody
Day 14 Sunday Back into Yellowstone on Hwy 20 and head south on Hwy 89 past the magnificent Grand Tetons to Jackson Hole. 177 miles
Day 15 Monday Head west through Idaho Falls and past the black lava beds at Craters of the Moon National Park before heading North on Hwy 93 and West on 75 to Stanley in the Sawtooth Range. Great roads and big scenery. Mileage 289 miles
Day 16 Tuesday Head west on Hwy 21 to Nampa and pick up Hwy 26 across into Oregon and to overnight in John Day which is almost the middle of nowhere. Mileage 290 miles.
Day 17 Wed Across through Oregon and ancient fossil beds on Hwy 26 to Bend and then head south to Crater lake which was formed by a massive volcanic eruption. The lake is fed by rain and snowmelt and is the deepest blue. Superb views and stunning scenery. We stay in Klamath Falls and another BBQ. Mileage 290 miles.
Day 18 Thur Ride down past Mount Shasta and through Lassen Volcanic Park. Just when you think you’ve seen enough scenery to last a lifetime, this will take your breath away and some great riding roads as a bonus. Overnight in Chester and a great Mexican restaurant. Mileage 272 miles
Day 19 Fri Last day on the road and a great ride back to Santa Rosa on Hwy’s 89 and 70 to Yuba City and past Clearlake. We will arrive in Santa Rosa at around 5pm. Mileage 275 miles
Day 20 Sat To airport for flight home.
