Pannier Frame Brace

Can anybody please post up pictures of the pannier brace between the LH and RH pannier frames.

I had the bottom lug break off the RH frame last year, and welded back on, but not wishing to repeat this if avoidable.

Its for an ST so identical set up to the G/S.

Any chance of a side picture.

Does the mudguard fix to the brace at all?

Yes two holes in the support strut and the mudguards. The holes that are used for the number plate mount.

2 P Clips (1 either side) hold it on the rails. Also available in Chrome.

Story so far. Gelandestrasse and I agreed on a price and I duly received it.

So, it lines up left to right with the pannier frames, and the number plate fixing holes in the mudguard, but, its about 25mm short front to rear.

The one pictured in the e bay advert does not look correct as the left and right tabs are in the wrong plane. i.e facing forward, when the tabs facing left to right would seem to be correct.

Of course, at the moment, I am only going from the picture at #2 kindly posted by F8GS.

I think I know what you mean, you have a large gap between the bracket and the mudguard. I had the same issue.

I loosened the mudguards bolts, adjusted it back slightly and managed to close the gap down to around 5mm or so and then inserted and tightened the number plate bolts which closed up the remaining gap.

Finally re-tightened the mudguard and all should be fine. You may have to use metal bolts rather than plastic number plate ones if the gap is too large.

This is one on an R100GS (93). Clearly this will not fit! I think it is for a G/S.

For the R100GS, the front lower pannier rack mounting sets the distance between the back of the pannier rack and the rear mudguard. The rear mudguard has little or no adjustment. How F8GS did it is admirable!

Couple more pics. My R100GS and a R65G/S pic I stole off eBay...

To me the G/S set-up has the relative position of pannier/mudguard quite different to later bikes. The mudguards have different part numbers between the models.

The GS mudguards are larger, probably to cover a larger arc taken by the paralever arm and hub.

The picure of the 65G/S has the same mudguard as the 80G/S and the ST.

My ST has the correct mudguard fitted, but the brace sat at least 25mm away from the pannier frame.

I had a look at the mudguard fixings and manged to move it probably less than 2mm. Not enough to get near what was required to close up the gap.

It books like the one on e bay has been butchered at the lugs have been bent in the wrong plane, maybe to get it to fit.

Looking at your picture are you sure you have the original BMW pannier frames. These are the frames on my bike. These were off an ST and are identical to the frames off the R80G/S PD.

See pictures, your frames look different IMHO.

I thought the monolever models did Not come with a rear frame brace,
the paralever does.
Are you mixing up a paralever brace and an some sort of aftermarket mono lever brace?

As far as I know, the mono didn't come with a brace. Mine certainly didn't.

I've since swapped mine for some Hepco Becker ones which have the brace.

For sure the Mono did not come with the brace but the brace off the later basic fits, hence my attached pictures.

It’s fits perfectly on the ST and G/S frames.
