I bought a new set of aluminium panniers for my 2018 recently and just got around to mounting them yesterday. I keyed them up myself and the locks all open and close properly but when I put on the right pannier and close the clamp I can't turn the key fully in the lock to lock it !!

Am I missing something or is there a fix for this ?

I had the same issue with the right one on mine. If you look inside the open latch, there is a flat bar, which the bit sticking out of the barrel holds back when turned to the locked position. I just had to dress the bar a bit with a small flat file. Literally just took off a gnats knacker.

I have the same problem with mine shop is sorting it out as the money i payed for them they can sort it.

You need to drop the bike with the panniers on. BMW know that the bike will get dropped many times, so have factored in a bit of play, so the locks work properly after a few times. :D

I bought the lot from a german BMW shop online so going back to the shop isn't an option.

In this case “they all do that sir.” For my sins I have had three LC GSA’s with Alu luggage and had exactly the same on all three sets of panniers. You’d think being OE they’d have sorted it by now...

.... like they have with the final drive seals, thin paintwork, ESA failures and other foibles? Don't hold your breath!

Had the same with my used Alu' panniers. Took the lock core out, fettled it a little, re-assembled back into the housing and it has been fine ever since (touch wood). They're crude locks, easily picked and sloppily assembled in relatively flimsy plastic housings. They'd have been better off not bothering and just offering a decent latch fitted with a hasp for your own padlocks...that or just fitting decent locks to the things in the first place. They cost enough! Givi can get it right, so BMW have no excuses.

Take a look at the thin centre part of the end of the key it can get miss shapened slightly usually by the sat nav cradle lock, have had it happen on two lc models.
Still worked the cradle and ignition and one pannier but not the other one, worth a look

It turns out the key was sticking in the lock when the panniers were mounted and locked !! I put some WD40 on the key and they're a bit better. Hopefully they'll loosen up with use.
