Papplewick Pumping Station Bike Weekend 2026

I’d love to see that, as it links in a way to my London’s water wander.

You've just missed a steaming day last Sunday at Crossness but you were away, there's another coming up in August but you're probably away for that too.

I attended an open day event earlier this year. The pumping station and the underground reservoir are fascinating examples of Victorian engineering. It's said the pumping station came under budget so the chief engineer was allowed to add the superb architecture and fittings. It was only years after the station was closed down in the 1969 and a trust took over the renovation that the public we give access, prior to that only council members and the workers saw the interior. Quite magnificent.

It’s on the list, as is Kempton’s huge steam engine.

But we digress.

Very very impressive and the tractor ride to the underground res was too.

then there are the hundred or so classic bikes around.
always sunny = wot have I missed??

Great day at Papplewick, the underground resevoir well worth seeing.
Lovely atmosphere and some very interesting folk with stories to tell.
I'd quite like to do that tour sometime, sadly I got there Sunday afternoon and it was all booked up.

I think this is a regular, pretty thing. Is that an AR50 behind it ? What a scrawny looking thing but I remember having my nose pressed up against Granby Motorcycles window in Beeston lusting after an AR80/125 many moons ago.

And such a feat of (over) engineering...

A nice way to spend an hour, thanks for the reminder !
