Paralever bearings..

Alrite Scott . That depend on wear ? If you see nudges in the racer then change them

As Beemer Pimp says. I think though it's not the end of the world. If you re-greased them and took up any slack when reassembling my guess is they'd be OK. Certainly better than having slack/play.

Alternatively, hang on and order some new bearings/bushes, whichever you opt for. Once the FD is off is not a big job (but you might need some heat for dissembling - removing the races n the swingarm).

When is bearing not a bearing?

When it no longer rotates freely.

Brinnelling prevents the bearing from rotating freely, and while it may feel slightly notchy (brinelling) when not loaded. When you apply the required 7NM preload to the bearing on assembly, you can rest assured it will have a whole lot less rotation.

You will have to make your own judgement call on whether to re-lube and reuse.

Remember, that if the bearing stops rotating, your aluminium pivot pin will become the new bearing surface. So a good indication for you, is the state of the pivot pins when you remove them. If they look worn, then you have a problem which needs attending too.

Haha. All good points. I guess my thinking is that at this moment the priority is to get the gaiter on. The bearings can come later. Tho sure, while the FD is off it makes sense to finish the job. But realistically is all gonna work OK if it just goes back together... How many bikes out there wit shot paralever bearing and not replaced, for ages...

It all depends on West Coast's schedule and use of the bike. Personally I'd replace them, but that will delay getting the job done.

Thanks for the replies guys..think I'll jus have a look @ them and if theyre not bad I'll regrease them and reassemble the paralever and monitor them for any play that develops ... :thumb2
