I change my own fd oil on a fairly regular basis which means undoing the paralever arm bolt to drop the unit down to drain the oil out , i was told recently i need to change the the nut everytime which is torqued up to 43nm , is this correct ?? i cant find any previous threads on this or info in workshop manual . any comments :):)

it is a lock nut and the end is deformed. simple rule i use in the aircraft industry..... if you can not run the nut down the bolt shaft by hand then the locking mechanism still works... it clearly says the nut should be renewed in the workshop manual though.

either buy a new nut or use a blob of threadlock if you are worried about it.

Thanks swissrob , i cant find that in the workshop manual :blast i was just worried after time it may crack etc etc removing on a regular basis , i'll get a couple of new one's now you have said that though many thanks :thumb2

If you look closely the nut is oval not round. So it deforms when on bolt (and hence grips).
I guess the fear is repeated use will weaken its grip (or fail and snap).

I renew my nut every 3 oil changes.

Crush it a bit more in a bench vice and use a drop of loctite 221 threadlocker on it.
