I suspect that the output bearing is toast, as it seems notchy, gearbox worked fine, but whilst riding there was a duff bearing type of noise, though that could have been from anywhere,

As I am doing a bit of restoration, and it needing the bearing done, anyone who knows these boxes care to give it the once over, as I would rather it have the bits replaced that it needs or are cheap insurance,

box is not yet out, but not that far away!:thumb2

I dont know a lot about the gearbox innards, but when mine went u/s you could feel the resistance and notchiness when pushing it backwards. I initially suspected the uj in the drive shaft but when I took it off and tried to turn the gearbox output flange by hand it was notchy .
If you do take the box out, I followed the gen on here and didnt seperate the bevel box from the drive shaft housing just undid the swing arm pivots and drive shaft from the gearbox flange and pulled it all out as one.

the housing and bevel are already out, it's by turning the driveshaft that you can feel the roughness of the bearing!
