Bought this R80GS on this forum in April.

I was not planning to do much to it but that was wishful thinking 🤔

Paul S took me to London to collect it and it ran very well on the motorway back to Nottingham.

I took it on the Lincolnshire Wolds Run in May where I found it was running very rich!

The white RNineT GS Urban following me had turned black from the soot. 😳

I found a broken choke on the carb body. When replacing it and fitting manual chokes, one of the seals for the pushrod tubes went and it was pissing oil out on my driveway.

I took it to Charlie (Pedals) Harris at Overland and Classic Melton Mowbray who did an excellent job sorting the bike out with a complete top end overhaul.

With vapour blasted and nicely balanced carbs the R80 ticks over like a Swiss watch.

Because of the new parts fitted including piston rings I got back on the road and running in the engine.

A few weeks later the lights failed at night and it needed to be recovered. Turned out to be a faulty relay.

Unfortunately the recovery driver fastened the bike down by supplementing the ratchet straps with the winch hook compressing the front forks!

Once home I found the bike was damaged and front forks were now catching the now bent upper bull bars and further damage caused to the fairing and tank.

I am pleased to now say that my complaint was eventually resolved and I have been paid in full.

However, with the bike back with Charlie I decided this was a good time to give the bike a front end refresh; get the electrics sorted and a complete repaint on the tank and panels with the forks and replacement bull bars powder coated.

Thankfully, Charlie and Mikeyboy had some replacements for the damaged parts in stock 👍

Also, thanks to Tetley for the twin headlights Charlie fitted.

I lost a side panel 🤦🏻‍♂️ so the replacement and original hand guards have been painted but not fitted yet.

I now have the bike back and I am loving it 🥰

Big shoutout to Charlie for all of is work and advice in getting this to be a bike I enjoy and proud of.

First picture of me with the bike on the day I bought it.

The rest were taken on the day I collected it from Charlie after the repairs and refresh.

Bike painted back in its proper Mark 2 bumblebee colour and decals.

Bought this summer, a high mileage ‘93 PD, it’s now had a tidy up/stying change as well as a new clutch from Mikeyboy and Charlie. It can now pull the ‘skin off the rice pudding’!
Cheers guys.
