Park Lane - Battersea - Dear O Dear

and I am sure that South London Motorcycles are, as you say, an excellent dealership. However they are based just outside the M25 in Caterham. My point is that there is no dealership inside the M25 for the whole of Central London and its suburbs other than Park Lane and they act as if they couldn't care less. And given that they have no competition they don't have to, so they don't.

agreed - it is a pain in the ass, as are Park Lane. But I'd rather make the journey to SLM and get good serice than come away from PL every time feeling like I've been kicked in the ass ;-)

SLM's are very much INSIDE the M25.......and so are Prestige at Bexleyheath......

Just a minute !

Beeeeeeeep

I'd like to score a point for spotting a "deviation" from the original post in the thread.

;)

to be honest I have only the haziest of notions as to where Bexleyheath or Caterham are. Pleasant suburbs they may be but whether they are just inside or just outside the M25 is not really the point I am trying to make and I think that you know that. However I am happy to stand and be corrected as to the location of these fine establishments.....fortunately Mobitec come to the customer so I need never have to set the GPS for the wilds of Kent or the badlands of Surrey. I didn't buy a GS to ride to unfamiliar places.............

You must have the patience of a saint...

If you're in Guildford, what about SLM? Haven't missed a beat with me so far.

And for a tyre why bother with a dealer when FWR are within easy pissing distance of Battersea.... and they just have to be cheaper?

It's a pity that you live in London..............because you should go to a REAL BMW bike dealer like ..........Rainbow..........BVM........Jefferies...........Pidcocks.............Wollaston.............CW.............Bath Road.............Baderstons etc.........and I apologise for the other good dealers that I missed off........

Then you'd get proper service...........

I've yet to give my local UK dealership a try. I know I should set the GPS* for Bexleyheath or some such wild east place in Sarf Lunnon or in Surrey, but I haven't yet.

As a half northerner by blood, I still prefer to run the risk of a duff dealer to stayin the South-East and avoid living in the north and a long way from the Channel and the Continent.....

I'm due a 10000kms service in the next coupleof thousand miles and will no doubt take it back to Arras..... another of my locak BMW dealers!

Park Lane servicing

I have heard so many horror stories about Park LAne I would never go there even though they are near, I use Cannon, Chelmsford who were my supply dealers and have found them pretty helpful, but they are not in the M25, true.

donkeys

Useless to a man, local has been helpful but bmw battasea park lane parkwest all crap and the same company . I am led to belive that they are the only dealership run by bmw as the rest are franchises could not organize a piss up you know where!!
six weeks in advance i had my bike booked in for warranty work replacement heated grip two days before message on answerphone please call we can not take your bike in on the day specified please call.
Well so i did convesation went as follows" what is happening about my bike repair on friday " "whats your name sir" give details " Ah yes your bike is ready for collection" " dont think it is I can see it from here! " OH! can we phone you back? "yes
next day still no call so i phone them and basicly they tell me that my bike is in for a check and they will look at the handgrip but can not garentee that it will be fitted in a day?????
 so decide to cancel I find out later that they had 85 bikes booked in for one day DUH!! and they were just making excuses so they could get through thier workload when i did eventually take it in, halfway through the day they phoned (how sweet they remembered me) terribly sorry sir we do not have a heated grip in stock and in case you ask yes I was rude!

i wonder if all dealerships are becoming / are a bit crap due to recent shortage of decent 'Trades' people ? ie mechanics.

Seems like it to me - especially when you consider the wages they want to pay for a decent mechanic - pathetic !

go to a car showroom / dealer and the mechanics have lovely tiled floors in the workshop, clean working condition, all the correct tools and been sent on all the courses - and get paid more.

Go to a bike shop and 'usually' exactly the opposite is true.

You'd think a 'prestige' B&W bike dealer facilities and renummeration would echo the car dealership - but not a chance.

It also seems the same scenario with the receptionists........

I currently live in the Bermuda Triangle of BMW dealers.

It's roughly 50 miles from me to either Oxford, Sawbridgeworth, SLM or SPC. Guildford is roughly 30 miles.

I wouldn't touch Park Lane with a barge pole after walking into their showroom and getting the look of "deliveries round the back mate" cos I was in bike gear.

Oxford and Guildford obviously think they live in the stockbroker belt, cos they're svc prices are astronimical.

Tried booking the bike in somewhere, as I was over a 12k svc after the Morocco trip and needed the rear drive gaiter replacing as it had split when I got thumped by another Adv in the desert.

Most dealers quoted an hours labour to replace the gaiter.

I ended up booking in at CW after hearing all the positive comments about them - they also had the earliest booking.

A 250 mile round trip.

They put a new TKC80 on the rear tyre for @£85 and then didn't charge me for replacing the gaiter as the rear wheel was already off and it wasn't on their parts charge list!

I gotta say, all the comments about CW are true. I even spent time right next to the mechanic watching what he was doing and him explaing what/why/how. Top bunch of guys.

Try and get that elsewhere.

Worth the nice ride back off the motorways too - just don't do it after a night shift (3hrs sleep in 24hrs :sleep )

Oxford charged me £130 for a 30k service which didn't strike me as too bad (the only one I've paid for so far as the 600 mile on the 1200 was, correctly, foc).

I've been very impressed with them so far.

they quoted me @£350 for a std 12k svc on the adv.................

nearly £100 more than elsewhere

only commenting on their pricing, not had any other dealings with them.

Hi Commuter

Having read, with great concern, your comments (and those of the rest of the UKGSer community) and I am very unhappy that there seems to be so many problems and you have had such a poor experience.

The Battersea site is beginning to come together. You have already met the new Aftersales Manager, Jason Bush and we also have a new Service Team Manager starting shortly. Our priority is to get back to the core of excellent customer service and this is where I would ask you all to help.

Can I suggest we form a "Clinic" whereby you can tell us what you feel is wrong and how we can go about fixing it. Jason is more than happy to have your comments and so am I (good and bad!!) - and Lynne Thompson, our Customer Service Manager is also here to help.

Guys - we know we haven't got it totally right yet, but we do value your custom and goodwill. What do you think?

Regards
Paul Davies
