Going to Paris for a weekend visit to support friends running in the Paris Marathon and take pics of the event so will be there from the 13th to the 15th April and am staying at a hotel without it's own Parking facilities, in the Opera-Madeleine area of Paris. Whist they are going by air I decided to make the trip my first forey onto the continant on the bike but will need to park in Paris for the Fri/Sat/Sun (leaving Sunday evening).

Has anyone experience or advice regarding Parking motorcycles in Paris?

don't cross between cars dog shit everywhere, left mine in hotel underground car park cos the whole looked suspect!

Paris is where my mate got knocked off, girlfriend killed and he lost his leg. Take the train much better!

loads of one ways, stupid signs which make no sense and are designed to confuse and slow you down enough for frogs in old crapped out renaults to try and ram you.

I parked my 1100GS not far from the Opera House for a week with no problems.

That`s not to say I wasn`t paranoid for a week,though :rob

I just parked on the pavement opposite the hotel, outside a small shop, making sure the bike wasn`t obstructing anyone or anything.

And fitted two feckoff big locks....securing the bike to a rigid post.

I don`t think a bike would be any more secure in an underground carpark...quite the reverse in fact...because nobody is likely to notice a scrote trying to nick it.

Every time I have been in Paris they are happy to allow you to park at the front door of the hotels. Especially when it's two BMW's.

They could not be more helpful, I was in the centre of Paris the night France won the European Cup, the hotel owner suggested that the bikes might not be safe as there would be so many people, and he made space in the restaurant after closing time to take the bikes inside.

Of course they had to be out early the next morning, before the restaurant opened.

They are always helpful not like the UK where they just want you park it out the back somewhere, as long as it's out of site, and does not embarrass them.

Used to be that you could park on a sidewalk as long as you did not hinder pedestrians. Lately the idiot mayor of Paris has started towing bikes that are on sidewalks, specially in tourist areas.

As a tip, if you see a public garage close by, and the barriers are half long (ie, you can ride your bike through) it means bikes can enter and exit for free. Sometimes there's even a special motorcycle entry.

If not, head for the special motorcycle parking you'll see everywhere. They're free, and you can chain your bike there.
