Found myself at the other end of the world this week. My older brother Don has been taken very ill in Auckland so I flew out last week to be with him.
Did see Cornish pasties for sale in a shop , Bloody antipodeans, I will have to take them to task. Havnt seen any tossers out here not many bikes at all.
anyway its why Ive been quiet this week.

I would be careful with the word "tossers" here in NZ. It has a totally different meaning. !!!!!

I hear and read lots of opinions that the south island is the real NZ....but have not been yet, so be nice to hear why? Is it because the weather is not as nice or there are less of the populace on the south island?

Jafa - "Just another fcuking aucklander". Yeah H/Bay has a fantastic climate, all year round motorcycling and great empty roads - plenty of the back ones are metalled (gravel).

Generally the further South you go the friendlier people get. You'll drive along a back country road on the West Coast or Southland & the locals will look up & give you a wave.

As per the rest of the world the population tends to stick to the 'safety' of the cities. The Sth Island is very beautiful & quieter. The climate is cooler (not as cold as the UK I believe). Job security in smaller places limits the no. of visitors settling. In Nelson, the top of the South Island, there is a high no. of Poms settling - almost 50% of my customers are Poms. They usually loveit here until they get sick of the laidback way we do business.

Thanks for the comments guys, just proved to me that the tosser humor is constant throughout the world.
Unfortunately I'm only here for a week or so. My Bro is not doing too well. We had him home for the weekend but he is doing downhill fast.He went back into hospital on Sunday after the bloody taxi driver managed to overturn the wheelchair, Still he is in the best place.
Ive been taken round Auckland by his daughters and to lunch yesterday at the Viaduct, must say I,ve never seen mussels like it, friggin huge not like the pissy little froggy ones, these are about 4 or 5 inches long.
I would love to have me a few of you guys and that smokie sounds great but unfortunately Im flying back on Thursday.
Im glad you replied as I was begining to thing it was all Hardlies here.

Got back from Auckland friday, cream crackered, 36 hours on plane and train.
The bad news is that my brother has a brain cancer that is inoperable. He is having intensive radium treatment and all we can do is hope and pray. He has gone downhill very quickly. Six weeks ago at his regular health check he was told by his doc that he was unnaturally healthy for a man of his age, didnt know about the tumor then. Just shows, you dont know whats around the corner. Anyway I thank you for your comments and support, I know this is probably in the wrong section but my mind has been all over the place.

Really sorry to hear about your brother, at least you've had the chance to see him again, i'm sure that will make a difference when you try and come to terms with his illness.

I'm in a similar position with my elder sister she is very ill right now, it really hurts me, knowing there is nothing I can do, i'm a bit of a control freak and I'm beating myself up a bit at not being able to help out
