Peaks byways route - big bike suitable with suitable tyres - GPX file enclosed.

I had a ride out last weekend on the following lanes, Youtube video for an idea of the type of lanes.

The GPX is attached for this route, happy to go along if anyone fancies doing this route sometime. Houndkirk road is great fun !

Standard disclaimer applies, reasonable tyres needed and the Gopro can flatten the landscape slightly making it appear a bit easier.

That looks absolutely hellfire 👍🏻 ok for complete novices weather dependant?

In theory yes if it's dry, three elements worth considering, others may have many more thoughts and recommendations ;
  • Tyres, I prefer having something 50/50 orientated or even more regardless of weather, I'm sure a skilled rider could cope quite well on stock tyres but I like the confidence some knobbly tyres give me such as AX41's, Karoo4's, Mitas XT's etc...
  • Technique, A small amount of technique helps massively, some learn as they do, some get some training. Balance is key especially on a bigger bike. I spent some time with the Triumph Adventure Centre but lots of people just get started.
  • Bike, Are you prepared to drop it (and pick it up ?)

Brilliant tips. I suppose picking up the bike is the most important and underpins all of the above 😂😂

I mentioned that I did the Rallymoto Icebreaker navigational challenge recently a couple of weekends ago. Here is a video of some of the lanes on the route to get an idea of it. It was a lovely day out, with some lanes I knew, and some that I hadn't been on before.

Good to see you paddling - that is my kind of speed. It does get hairy on the motorway mind!

Thetford Forest Icebreaker tomorrow, anyone fancy an early start ;)

See you at 09:00 at W3W:///models.decorator.instant

I suspect tomorrow will be a good test of my new heated gloves.

I’d love to ride this with you sometime. Appreciate you sharing. Great video and really helpful. PM me if you’d like to hook up for a ride over there at some point. I have a 900GS.

Thetford Forest today, 300 mile round trip and some very slippy lanes. I'm quite cautious if I'm on my own and this slows me down a bit. I've lost confidence in my worn rear tyre (Mitas XT Trail+ Dakar) as it was just spinning and sliding on cambers, so that's getting changed before I go out again. Not sure what with yet.

New heated gloves for the early morning journey there were great (7:00 start as it's 2 hours each way and finished by 3:30 for the 2 hour slog back). A hastily made jam and cheese sandwich, a now dented flask of coffee, a bar of chocolate and a banana were all I needed.

Fabulous day as you have to concentrate on the navigation and picking your line in the slippy lanes which means you are too occupied to worry about all those daily life worries. North Yorkshire next, anyone fancy tagging along ?

Not exactly high octane (despite filling up with E5 99 fuel). This shows the type of lanes on the Thetford run, quite sandy (but wet),
