At last - I have found a forum for mi bike!

I have got a '03 1150 GS with a full remus systems and have started to look at chip upgrades and wanted to see if they are worth buying?

I have read the blurb from the various site talking about "better midrange" and "better fuel consumption" which doesn't appear to make sense

Do lots of people fit them? Do they work? Should I just buy an R1 and be done with it? :hack

Any comments would be very helpful

Thanks

I fitted the BB Chip to my 1100 and the fuel consumption dropped from 200 to a tankfull to 165ish, the bike ran really well though so I didn't mind the increased fuel consumtion.

Paragon's yer man, there ain't nothing he don't know about aftermarket parts, especially the 'small willy' performance stuff - in fact the smaller the willy the better :D

Performance - you get what you pay for

Welcome, good luck and try not to change it to a R1. Had the remus and then lazer setup on, changed it back to stock as I want a tourer not a sportster - but that's just me. All the go faster parts I have realised you have to sacrifice loads of fuel £££ at the end of the day. If you can afford it then no probs.

Its interesting to read of some people finding fuel consumption worsening after fitting chips to their bikes. I fitted a Superchip to my 1100 and a BB power chip to my 1150 and found the fuel consumption improved in both cases.

not really going to buy an R1 - I have a young family and I would like to live long enough to see them grow up.

I have currently got an SV650S for the quick / track riding but the wife is applying pressure because "you can only ride one at a time" so I was going to try and squeeze all I can out of the GS so I can sell the SV.

If anyone has fitted a chip, is it worth the cash - I commute to London each day to fuel ecconomy is a joke already so a don't mind losing a few mpg's - just want to see if the performance increase is worth the £300 it costs:confused:

If no I can just spend it on  & :beerjug:

Did it improve the bike much?

Where do you get a BB chip from and how much is it?:whip

My experience has been that the BB chip adds some mid range and top end (pulls strong up to 8100+ PRM). The Laser chip adds more low / midrange w/ very little improvement on the top.
The BB chip has the advantage of having 3 programs (actually more if you count the lower octane settings). Stage 1 is stock, 2 is no cat and some restriction in the Can, and 3 is no cat and an open or racing can.
It has been so long since I have run the stock chip I can't remember how the fuel useage changed. With the BB chip, the best I get on pure highway driving is 42 - 43 US MPG, and the worse around town is about 34 US. My gut feeling is is is lower than stock. My figures are fairly accurate as I have the corrected speedo gear.
My concern about running stock chip w/ performance exhaust is that the engine might run too lean. Have read a few posts of riders "holing" a piston due to lean running. Also, the chip gets rid of any popping on deceleration.

In the case of the 1100, it made a big improvement. The bike was much more driveable. Prior to fitting the Superchip, around town it didn't really like using 4th and 5th gears at the lower speeds. After fitting the chip, I could use the higher gears much more. The engine was smoother and more responsive, and the fuel economy improved by 10%.

The BB powerchip made the 1150 a little bit smoother, a bit more tractable, and it has the advantage of being able to change the settings to allow for an aftermarket exhaust/K & N air filter. It can also be changed to allow for low octane petrol.

You can buy them from Motorworks.
