I have a problem this morning. Went to the petrol station on my keyless GSA this morning and the petrol cap wouldn't open. Tried it many times switching bike on and off.
Had enough fuel to head to work, but any ideas before I call recovery as I don't have enough fuel to get home or to a dealer.
Thanks in advance.

Use the torx driver underneath your seat and remove the front two screws on the fuel cap. You can release the cap that way.

So you actually believed the BMW/media hype then? Will you ever trust it again?

Forgive me for being thick, but does your filler cap not have a key slot then ? It seems BMW are asking for trouble building in rider "aids" that don't aid that much !!! :blast

No key slot, just a hinged flap that opens it, which can only be opened with the ignition off and the 'key' within proximity. Had it for 8 months and it worked faultlessly.

Sounds great until it goes wrong !!! At least DaveS was in town and not at the top of the Col Du Galibier or similar !!! BMW are designing in features that are gobbled up by the Nuttys of this world and that is why I will never buy another BMW.

Hope you get it sorted, DaveS !

Didn't notice a petrol station on the col du galibier last time I was up there 😁

No but there's one in Valloire,10 minutes away. But the nearest BMW dealer is in Nice,a good few hours away !

'nuff said............. :D

Yeah, 'nuff said indeed.

9 times out of 10 it's user error, as you have to shut the flap firmly and not fanny about. Once I worked this out, I've not had an issue since.

But you have one, so obviously know all about this.:thumb

But you haven't had this bike for eight months have you? Obviiously somethings gone wrong.

I had exactly the same issue about 5/6 weeks ago. Started this thread on here http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php/409899-Fuel-filler-cap-issues-on-2016-GSA-with-keyless

As you have had the bike for months I'm going to assume user error is not the problem (Mine happen at my very first fill up so I was convinced it was me being a muppet). It had to go back to the dealer who confirmed that there was an issue with the system. They got it working but also ordered me a new fuel filler cap...which has turned up this week (over a month later). Bike going in to have the filler cap replaced next week. I've had no issues since but they still want to replace it as a "precautionary measure". The other tip they gave me was to push the front edge of the filler cap (opposite side to the hinge) down before lifting the flap. I have no idea if this helps but it has become habit now.

If your nearest dealer is that far away I would be on phone to BMW assist. Get them to sort it.

Had the white GS with Keyless for 8 months without issue.

That said..... i chose NOT to get Keyless on my GSA....... as its pointless haha :D

Thank fuck for that :D

Thanks for all the comments. I've had no problems with it all since I've owned it from new, which is around 2 1/2 months now.
I'll try pushing down on the filler cap first to see if that helps and then I'll get the Torx key out to unscrew it if all else fails!
Will report back.

Ok just been down.
I couldn't get it to open despite pushing down on the opposite side of the hinge, but when I had loosened the two torx screws it poppped open with a definite electronic click and its now back to working fine.
So I'll mention it when I'm next in the dealers and get them to have a look, but at least I know that I get in if I need to.

Thanks for all the help.

Good news. Why do they have to make something so mechanically simple so complicated with ever oints of failure - surely this is not progress. It's like having an answer to a question nobody has asked. :blast

Sounds like it was more of a mechanical problem than an electronic one - release 'solenoid' mechanically jammed???
