Are you sure it is not taking the stains off because it is taking the clear coat (or some of it) off? Sounds likely.

( methol ethol kenn something or other), it used to degrease aircraft componants, its heated up and it's the vapour that they use on jet engine parts, it will destroy virtually all plastics, paints, rubbers, and must only be used in controlled surroundings when heated up. I just used it cold & neat on a cloth, and the petrol stains just rub off. Getting some more in soon, down to 1ltr at the moment.
