I think my high fuel consumption might be partially down to the bike pissing petrol out of the breather all night long. I have checked the hoses and cap and everthing seems OK so what is causing the pressure/syphoning?

yours confused Graham:confused:

Had you just fuelled up, right to the top?

Mine does this sometimes. If you fill it right up, when you close the filler cap it seems to start syphoning petrol out all over the floor via the breather tube.

What I do if I spot this happening is unlock the filler cap and let it just rest partly open. Obviously I don't do this if parked outside.

If I brim mine and then park up the heat will cause the new cold fuel to expand and come out the overflow.

To test if it's doing it all night leave a small candle near the bike... If your garage/bike is still there in the morning it's nothing to worry about. If there not then your bike had a problem.

Graham,

are we talking 1100/1150? Then:

if it's petrol, not just fumes, it could be a leak in the hose where the breather pipe is connected to both sides of the tank access plate. (Hopefully someone will post a pic).

The rollover valve/breather is high in the tank and would stop syphoning, and should stop leakage from expansion as it will shut when the level is too high. So a leak in the pipe or connection is more likely.

Check all other pipework aswell. Check with the pump primed (ie pressure in the system). Quick release connectors have caused some problems - their 'o' rings are easily damaged.

Catch any leaks before they stain the engine casings

Good luck...........
