Phone book download

I've just encountered an issue which I've never seen before ... Having paired my iPhone 6S to my Nav IV I find that there is no phone book downloaded - I'm sure it used to be available. I don't particularly want to type in a number of numbers ..

Have I missed something ..

Bizarrely enough it's just downloaded at the next connection. No idea ..
