Photo Rally 2010

Three of us setting off from Belfast tomorrow morning to try to get all of the photo rally points in a week. None of us have done any photo rally points before so really looking to it - especially as the first point is Torr Head and the forecast for tomorrow is horrific for North Antrim!
Give a sympathetic wave if you see three half drowned bikers lost near a photo point over the next week (650gs & 2 dullvilles)

I take it Johns point and Monaghan will be early on the cards so if starting at Torr head. Good luck to the Honda Do Nots on those ones:aidan

Enjoy the week:beerjug:

yeah watch out on penal cross specially with the shite weather theres been

First day (friday) didn't go entirely to plan - we were an hour late leaving Belfast and then had a few delays before getting to our first point Torr Head(point 3). At least we got our photos there and got out again just before the road closed to become a stage of the Ulster Rally!
Quick cup of coffee in Ballycastle and things started to work properly - we got to Tirnony Dolmen (point 2) near Maghera fairly speedily and then had a superb ride to Castlederg Bridging Sculpture (point 6).
Another stop for coffee & scones and then on to Donegal town and out to St John's Point Lighthouse near Killybegs (point 1). I didn't know there were two roads to the lighthouse so we went green laneing for a few miles - doh!
Had a bit of fun positioning the deauvilles for photos at the lighthouse - the gs was just too easy, no challenge.
That was our four points and 220 miles covered for the day so we quit while we were slightly ahead and imposed on the hospitality of a friend in Killybegs.
Tomorrow (saturday) - plan is another four points - who knows?

sorry no photos posted today - haven't quite got the technology sorted yet

Good man Drew
Look forward to hearing more.
David

Keep going Drew and enjoy
hope you got the right picture of Ballycastle Sculpture as we got it wrong coming back from HU the first time and had to go back two weeks ago from Dublin to get the right one.

A fantastic way to see the country:)

I wish it was raining here.....

Hi Drew

Hope you are enjoying the photo rally and the GPS is working fine, don't worry I won't tell anybody that you had it specially installed for the trip:D

Anyhow I'm sweating my nuts off here, currently north of Seville, 40 degrees today, too hot by far, if only it would rain.

Had new tourances and brake pads fitted last week in Marbella and the airhawk is doing a fine job for my bony ass:)

See you soon

David

Great day for the bike yesterday, got two more done Cork and Waterford then home to Portarlington 250 miles round trip

Got 5 points in the one day, about a week and a half ago. The weather was great and I covered nearly 600km, brilliant day out.

Planning on getting 6 the next day I get out, thumbs up to the Boyne Riders this is a great way to get people out on their bikes. I'll post some pics as soon as I can.

You'll be very close to 12 then, so be careful you don't lose your licence. :augie

Thanks, needed a giggle. What I can't understand is that they tell you the max you can have is 12 points, but they can be so hard to get. I haven't seen a speed trap in months (says he touching wood!)

Hi Drew spoke on Sunday good luck with the trip and hope you dont pick up anymore punctures

Saturday 21st (day 2)
After a quick tour of Killybegs Harbour courtesy of our hosts we were off to point 21 Easky Castle and then point 22 Site of Aughbui church. The combination of Paul’s map reading and me learning what the buttons did on the Garmin Quest (thanks to David of this parish) made it obvious that this was going to be an easy week. I’ve never had a plan before and found the feeling of being in control to be very novel and somewhat unnerving.
Thankfully I then had a puncture in the middle of nowhere and, even better, I made a complete hash of my first use of a tubeless tyre repair kit, leaving only a larger hole in the tyre. That’s more like a motorbike trip! Strangely, my friends seemed less relieved that things had gone wrong – obviously closet control freaks.
One and a half incompetent and mildly profane hours later the Dullville and I were loaded into the back of a van by passing road racer, Mark Hewitt. Puncture fixed, it was time to invoke plan B – a large steak, a pint of Guinness and a night in Mitchell’s Bar, Steakhouse, Restaurant, B&B, Self Catering and Funeral Undertakers in Carrigallen.

I had an unexpected day to myself today, so decided at very short notice to go out and bag some photies.

A nice short spin to Rathangan.

Followed by a lovely drive up the Slieve Blooms, although it was cold at the top.

Back in the saddle and off for more.

I had to drive through Kilkenny city to reach the next point- traffic was absolutely mental. Stopped for a quick tae and sambo, but as the quality was only fair, no pics!

Saw this along the way, Ireland old and new,

Onwards to my last of the day, unfortunately a crap pic.

Blasted straight off home to be told that we are now not going out tonight and there was no hurry home :blast

Could have bagged at least one more, but a great day out none the less. Can't wait to get out and grab a few more.
