Photo Rally 2012

priceless. The smile on everyone elses face when Hairnet got a special award for worst presentation was memorable.
Would have taken more interest if I knew that it was Hairnet who got that award, adding forum user name to the displayed photo might be worth considering, as if you hadn't enough work to do already, job well done again Gerry & Lorcan.

I have saved this years points as a GDB file so you can download it to your Garmin device or onto Mapsource just in case you can't (like me) open the GPX file.

thento newry to figure out if i could make the ferry...........

*** my sat nav is slightly outdated and was on the main road an knew i was close to the church when all of a sudden it shouts in 0.5 miles navigate off road (i LOVE those 3 words :blast)

but its the main road to derry FFS

so i stop at a small turning to check

BUT in doing so the sat nag was UPSIDE DOWN (can you see where this was going)

so i ended up on a steep, muddy uphill nightmare boreen....

remember the pic of the hornet on the beach in clare ?? (unsuitable vehicles in odd places FTW :D)

it was like that but not as long :D

felt like an hour to do about 500 feet

the real turning for the church which the sat nag didnt tell me about was about 150 ft from where id stopped

castlederg all over again lol - happens every year :D

so after swearing my helmet for a bit and finding a nordy shop that did icebergers :D

made newry for 2pm and wondered if could make dub for 3 - 66 miles

i did or rather rathfarnam to steal some tea from a certain member :D

decided in newry to add today to the trip........

Hi Everyone,

It’s the crazy one here again this year. As I do not have the luxury of those of you on mainland Ireland I had to use any opportunity to cover as many site as I can. This year I have been able to cover 17 of them in three days and two of the days were fair but not biking days. On Tuesday the sun came out while I travelled to N. Ireland. I had some wonderful roads and had to get back to Dublin for dinner with friends so I could not complete the 20 that I planned for.

I will have to say that Gerry has done us GS riders proud again this year and I will be interested to see how some of the sport bikes/three wheeler gets to some of these sites. I will try and upload the photos but if I cannot you will be able to access them on photobucket. I have also included the state of my bike when I got home just to let people know that it will be better to wait till summer to tackle some of the goat tracks called roads. Kerry was interesting as I was starting to wonder if I am ever going to get to the valley. Just hope a tractor is not coming the other way as even my GS has not got a reverse gear contrary to popular believe.

I have greatly enjoyed the riding again this year and I was very lucky that I could make it to the presentation considering the weather we have had over here. I also missed the bad weather on the way back yesterday and today it has start to snowing again.

you clearly need more of a challenge and have outgrown this little island

Great work and you didn't even need heated gear

Sojelade

Well done Sojelade, although it's a complete mystery as to how you managed to find any of the photo points given that you seem to be unable to follow the directions for putting your socks on....:D

Got 2 more done at the weekend while out with Brian & Geraldine doing a recce for the Wexford run :bounce1
Saturday was damp all day so we cut it short at 5 & headed to the B&B.

12 C’low/K’kenny: St Laserian cathedral gates
WexfordRecceweekend005.jpg

Sunday was much better, drier & brighter :D
Was hoping to get Wicklow on the way home but we ran out of time and beelined it home from Kilmore Quay.

11 Wexford: Evoy's forge
WexfordRecceweekend013.jpg

oh the rest will get done first week of may.........

planning route now -

a little stretch of the legs

It being a dry, bright and relatively warm day, I made a start.

The Limerick point is only 10 mins from home. Took me most of the morning to get ready, searching for the connector for my heated waistcoat.

An easy run through the tunnel under the Shannon and 45 mins to the Clare point, before heading back home for lunch.

Coming close to Clare Inn on the M18 saw a helicopter circling and then had to do some emergency braking as 2 Traffic Corps bikes suddenly shut down the motorway. Waited for minutes while traffic continued to come down the slip road and then the Chinese vice president motorcade appeared and we were off. There were 3 lunatic drivers who came racing up the outside lane to discover a Garda bike in front of them, it would seem that the dayglo belts and the flashing blue lights can't be seen at any distance.

Anyways, 2 down, 22 to go.
