Just fitted PIAA Xtreme White Plus bulbs to the main and dip and a Philips Blue Vision Ultra to the side light, (all from Nippy Norman 
).
I cannot believe the difference! It really is like night and day, (if you'll pardon the pun!). The side light is now probably brighter than the old dip lamp was.
It was bloody pricy at £71.00 including the dreaded VAT and P&P, but I have to say that the improvement in vision and in being seen has to be worth it.
