Picked up my F650GS on Friday from Rainbow and haven't stopped grinning since. Rainbow i have to say were absolutely superb from the moment i walked in there a couple months back, They threw in a Scottoiler for me and when picking my bike up i asked if they could fit the lead for my zumo 550 to the battery and they gave me a canbus lead and connected it all up for no extra money. It's already booked in for it's service and i have already put 300 miles on it, i really must look a fool grinning from ear to ear constantly.

A quick question, whats the best thing for cleaning the bike, im going to clean it often as i believe it helps me know what is what on the bike and to hopefully spot if something isnt right early

Cheers
Finally a GS owner..

ConGrats Russ..
I just can't resist to mention that I decided to go for a 800GS during the weekend and ordered, and payed it today.
It will be shipped over here on Friday and hopefully I can clear it through customs next week.
I was quite lucky to find a new one in Denmark so there is not going to be much of a "in waiting" period for me. :clap

Cheers
Karl

I am picking my one up tomorrow morning. I put the deposit down 2 months ago! I can't wait!. I don't know how I will do fall asleep tonight..

Cheers!!

Congratulations!

I must say I am jealous... I have to wait 'til Spetember to get my F800GS. Can't wait!

This site has made the wait all mor enjoyable :thumb

New bike, what things do I check to make sure it's all good?

Hi everyone! as from today I am another proud owner of a yellow 800gs!
All I can say at the moment is that the bike is excellent! It's my first bike ever so I don't have much to compare against.

I have seen that some bikes have been found to have loose screws, leaks and other problems. I am hoping you guys can list some of the things that you checked(or wish you had checked before!) like loose headlight screws, brake discs, etc. so I can spend some time with the bike tomorrow and make sure that everything is in order

I hope it's not too much to ask!

Thanks a lot!

Thanks All, i'll slap a couple photos up when i get the chance.

Someone here found that their rear sprocket was loose - that's all I have heard about.

first bike ever... TAKE IT EASY. In Australia you have to ride a 250 or a listed (power restricted bike up to) 650. The issue is that you have alot of power under your hand (0-62mph in 4.1/4.2 sec is Lambo times). Crash badly (or at all) and you may end up hating bikes for life.
Checks, well the rear sprocket as metioned, also hose clamp the radiator hose (other froum thread). Really a hand on check for lose parts and bolts is good. If you can move a part/bolt with your hands that is very, very big bad. Also a ride for 100mile is good to feel the internals (maybe get an experieced rider of a similar bike to ride a little as to your experience).
But it is a BMW so 'don't worry' (you never know in these day of globalisation).

All in all, really don't worry to much, just get out there and have a nice cruise

Congratulations

Congrats on your new bike. Why not get to know her a little better, by going around with the appropriate hex / torx and checking if they are all in place. It will get you used to the bike and also allow you to do a better check on pre-flight in the future. It helps no end.

Now I am really hooked

I finally got a personal up close look at the F800GS at a local bike show... The bike is so much mor ethan what I had seen on pictures here :D

I also found out that my bike will come with heated grips, center stand, ABS and onboard computer :clap

I currently have a G650X ? on loan from Pidcocks, what fun even if I cant see the front wheel when riding it !

I couldn't resist buying mine (and got my brother hooked on as well) only after looking at the pictures and reviews :thumb2

Yesterday I finally got to see one live: The only F800GS in Latin America (NOT FOR SALE :nenau)

Time goes by slowly when expecting great things :roll

Advice before pick up of new bike (snagging list)

Reading through this forum theres been a few niggles in the earlier models, this may well not effect my bike as it hasnt been built yet. However could folks post here anything they can think of that i need to ensure is done or check on before accepting delivery, cheers.

Ask the dealer if known faults have been cleared at the factory or whether they will do them in the PDI.

Known faults would include Immobiliser EWS ring, Stalling, Steering Head & Brake torques, etc.

Not all bikes are affected, but asking won't hurt or offend I'm sure.

Two things always for me - all recalls or technical campaigns addressed (as mentioned before) and the latest firmware update applied. Make both a contingency before signing on the line to buy.
