Go with it Santrix... :thumb

10,300 miles on my F800GS now and enjoyed every minute... only had it five months :thumb

No issues, no real problems :thumb2

However could folks post here anything they can think of that i need to ensure is done or check on before accepting delivery, cheers.

it probably will be no problems when it is not built yet, fork, brakes etc. is easy to check, had some stalling issue, BMW has upgraded the software for free, still stalling problems but rare, had my bike for 6 weeks now and just made 5500 miles and no problems, the best bike I ever used.

F800GS Snagging list

I'm seeing a lot of posts on ews failures and radiator hose problems etc. Couple this with MCN recently running a few articles on declining build quality I am getting concerned as I am taking delivery of my new 800 in October.

Can anybody help with a snagging list I can raise before signing on the dotted line? :nenau

worry not

I took delivery of mine in June and have done 6000 miles without any radiator hose, ews or any other problems. You wont regret your choice. This is an amazing bike! :thumb

I was also worried before buying, after what I had been reading, happy that I did not worry to much, no problems except stalling in first gear a few times. amazing bike, 6000 miles in 6 weeks and still going strong

Thanks for the votes of confidence all.

I guess i'd like to stick a positive "flag in the sand" with the dealership. I'm not wild about fix on failure policies, especially if i end up getting stuck out in the sticks!

the list grows!

i am putting this down to it being a new model, but it's giving me grief to the point where it's right on the balance between fun had, and agro caused!

so this morning i returned from the dealer (after x3 of being there) having had new gear positioning sensors dropped in her, a new top faux tank panel after the paint bubbled, and another attempt at re-calibrating the fuel tank for the trip computer (it runs out before the reserve light is on, never mind almost full bars!). i got the bike home and was giving it a clean before taking off around ireland early tomorrow morning with friends. i noticed a couple of things:
1. one of the links on the chain had fractured and the whole thing was about to completely come off if i'd gunned the bike any more.
2. there's an oil leak from the rocker gasket at the top of the engine block.

i dropped a new chain onto it today but couldn't get sprockets in time. as for the gasket, back to hurst's again! alan at hurst's has done a good job to date though :thumb2

the bike is great fun, it's just a bit too high maintenance for me right now. but since i don't have a wife, i guess i can put up with it!!

all that is after 9000 miles.

I had a new chain for the same reason the link broke by the rivet at
2,000 odd miles

gear positioning sensors why did you have these fitted ??????

I notice a few times when my bike has been in sixth gear the rid is only displaying 5 th gear

Great quote, so are you saying that i will stay single for a few years (only 26years old)? Sound good to me.

I am planning on printing out a few key threads and giving them to my dealer about a month before i am due to take delievery.

Mainly 'TOP HOSE', 'gear indicator', 'computer readout/fuel measure'.

I will also be on them so hard for a replacement bike if mine has to go in for repair unexpectly (main mode of transpo). With other 'cheaper' brands, i would not expect this, but this is BMW so i expect them to keep up their rep.

exactly. in 6th it was showing 5th or alternating between 5th and 6th in the display. apparently it is to do with water getting into them, but it's all sorted now and tells me accurately what gear it is in.

Decision made

Well after a test ride of a 800 GS and a good read on here and else were , and a ring about the dealers , i have confirmed a deal and the 1200 gsa is on its way in to the dealers and i'm picking up a a new 800GS the end of the month.

Congratulations Kieth. I too have just picked up my 800 after trading in the 1200gsa. I was still having second thoughts on the ride into the dealers, but when I got there and more importantly rode off I was very pleased with my decision. I had mine repainted before I got it and it looks sweet. When I figure out how to post a pic I'll show it off :aidan

I have had a lot of 1200GSA riders ask me about my F800GS. I love it but then again it's my second bike ever so I'm bound to love it. Even so It is a great bike and is serving me well in many scenarios.

When you said you repainted your bike I'm guessing it isn't purple... like this one

Is yours that white one that was spotted in Portugal?

Mine is the more standard looking version below

One thing i did not mention was i have orderd a higher seat, its the rally one discussed on one of the us forums , we see what its like when it turns up but its half the price of the tt one .

Keith

He He, no not the purple one. Mine is white and black, I stole the idea from the other one in Portugal but mine is very slightly different in the detail. No big GS stickers on the tank.
I am interested in the rally seat you mention. Do you have any details on it?
I would like a tall seat for of road and a standard for normal looning :D

Taken a bit of a flyer on it , not seen one on the flesh so to speak but is quite a bit higher than stock if i can find some photos i will post them.

Keith

That looks spot on , one other minor issue i had was after riding the 1200 the 800 bars seemed very narrow and the trun back at the end of the bars was not as confortable as the gsa ones , anyone swopped bars yet.

I have asked my dealer to have a look if the gsa ones will fit .
